The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) inaugurated a new regional office building at the Port Harcourt International Airport, a project that had been in development for 22 years. This initiative signifies a crucial step in the NCAA’s commitment to decentralizing its operations and enhancing aviation safety, security, and service delivery across Nigeria. The new facility aims to streamline communication, improve response times, and bolster collaboration with airlines, operators, and other aviation stakeholders within the South-South region. Port Harcourt, a significant economic hub for Nigeria’s oil and gas industry, necessitates robust aviation infrastructure, and this new office will serve as a cornerstone for operational excellence and improved regulatory oversight.

The Acting Director-General, Chris Najomo, emphasized the importance of this development, highlighting the strategic role Port Harcourt plays in Nigeria’s economy. He underscored the NCAA’s dedication to fostering safety and compliance within the aviation sector. The new facility is designed to provide a conducive working environment for NCAA staff, enabling them to perform their duties efficiently and productively, ultimately contributing to enhanced safety and efficiency in the region’s airspace.

Najomo further emphasized the collaborative aspect of this initiative, stating the NCAA’s commitment to working closely with airlines, operators, and other stakeholders in the South-South region. This collaborative approach is essential for ensuring seamless airline operations and maintaining high safety standards. The new office will serve as a focal point for communication and coordination, facilitating a more integrated and efficient aviation ecosystem within the region. He acknowledged the contributions of all involved in the project, including contractors and NCAA staff, praising their dedication and professionalism.

The completion of this project, after two decades, signifies a renewed focus on infrastructure development within the aviation sector. The previous lack of a proper office complex had impacted the NCAA’s image and operational efficiency. Titus Oladipo, the NCAA Regional Manager, expressed gratitude for the management team’s commitment to finally realizing this long-awaited project. He acknowledged the challenges faced by staff who were often subject to criticism from operators due to the inadequate office space. The new facility will restore staff confidence and enhance the authority’s reputation.

The new Port Harcourt office is not an isolated initiative. The NCAA is concurrently working on a similar facility in Kano State, expected to be commissioned shortly. This demonstrates the authority’s broader commitment to improving its infrastructure and services nationwide. By decentralizing its operations and establishing regional offices, the NCAA aims to enhance its responsiveness to local needs and strengthen its regulatory oversight across different regions of the country. This strategic approach will contribute to a more robust and resilient aviation sector in Nigeria.

It signifies the NCAA’s dedication to enhancing safety, efficiency, and collaboration within the sector. The new facility will provide a platform for improved communication, streamlined operations, and strengthened regulatory oversight. This initiative, along with the upcoming commissioning of a similar facility in Kano, underscores the NCAA’s commitment to modernizing its infrastructure and providing better services to stakeholders across Nigeria.
