The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) Eastern Regional Directorate is actively promoting democratic engagement by organizing parliamentary candidate dialogues across all 33 municipalities and districts within the region. These dialogues serve as a critical platform where candidates can articulate their visions and accomplishments while also addressing the concerns of constituents on both national and local issues. The initiative aims to enhance the democratic process by facilitating direct interaction between candidates and voters, allowing for a richer dialogue around important topics that affect the communities.
During a recent capacity-building workshop held in Koforidua for NCCE Municipal and District Directors, Eastern Regional Director Ms. Ophelia Nana Yaa Ankrah emphasized the significance of these dialogues. She articulated how they foster accountability and enhance regional cohesion by encouraging voters to engage with candidates on various matters. The dialogues not only strengthen the connection between constituents and their representatives but also aim to contribute positively to the upcoming electoral process by emphasizing transparency and community involvement.
The workshop aimed to equip NCCE directors with the knowledge necessary to effectively facilitate the dialogues. Ms. Ankrah discussed the importance of understanding the structure and purpose of the Parliamentary Candidate Dialogue, as well as essential reporting formats and budgetary guidelines. She stressed that successful adherence to these planning guidelines is crucial to the dialogues’ effectiveness and their potential to promote peaceful elections in the region, underscoring the importance of meticulous preparation and execution.
In her address, Ms. Ankrah also acknowledged the vital role of the media as partners in this initiative. The Deputy Eastern Regional Director, Mr. Augustine Bosrotsi, contributed to the workshop by educating the directors on standardized reporting formats for the dialogues. He highlighted the importance of accurate reporting, which includes key features such as media participation, adequate NCCE branding, and collaboration with important stakeholders like the Inter-Party Dialogue Committee (IPDC). This systemic approach aims to ensure that the dialogues are conducted efficiently and that all necessary documentation is in place for audit and review.
Regional Accountant Mr. Emmanuel Asiedu Dadzie provided insights into the budget management for the dialogues, advising the directors on diligent fund management practices. This financial oversight is essential for the smooth implementation of the dialogues and ensures that resources are effectively utilized for maximum impact.
