The National Chairman of Ghana’s ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, led a delegation of party executives to Obogu in the Asante Akyem South Municipality on Saturday, August 10th, to offer condolences and support to the families of 16 members of the Saviour Church of Ghana who tragically lost their lives in a road accident. The accident, which occurred on Monday, July 28th, involved a collision between the vehicle carrying the church members and a fuel tanker. The victims were returning from the church’s annual event when the devastating incident took place. The visit underscored the party’s commitment to supporting the affected community during this difficult period.

In a tangible display of support, the NDC presented a donation of GH₵10,000 to the Saviour Church of Ghana to assist with funeral arrangements and ongoing support for the bereaved families. A further GH₵50,000 was allocated directly to the families grappling with the loss of their loved ones. This financial assistance aimed to alleviate some of the immediate burdens faced by the families as they navigated the emotional and logistical challenges in the wake of the tragedy. Four other members of the Saviour Church who sustained injuries in the accident are currently receiving medical care, with the church leadership reporting positive progress in their recovery.

The community, deeply connected by faith and shared experiences, rallied together to support the grieving families. The accident served as a stark reminder of the fragility of life and the importance of community support in times of tragedy.

Mr. Nketiah, addressing the mourners gathered at the Obogu branch of the Saviour Church of Ghana, conveyed the party’s heartfelt condolences and offered words of comfort and encouragement. He emphasized the importance of maintaining faith and resilience in the face of such a profound loss. Acknowledging the depth of sorrow, particularly for families who lost multiple children, Mr. Nketiah invoked a sense of divine providence, suggesting that accepting God’s will was crucial in navigating the grief and avoiding accusatory sentiments.

The NDC Chairman’s presence at the gathering served as a symbol of solidarity and support, not only from the political party but also from the nation as a whole. His words echoed the shared sense of grief and the collective desire to provide comfort and assistance to the affected families. Mr. Nketiah’s message emphasized the importance of unity and resilience within the community as they navigated the challenging process of healing and rebuilding.
