The presentation of a comprehensive policy proposal by the NDC Nordic Chapter to the party’s headquarters in Accra marked a significant step in contributing to the government’s agenda. Comrades Issah Alhassan, David Issaka, and Aku-Sika Jørgensen, representing the Nordic Chapter’s Policy Committee, formally handed over the executive summary of their work to Hon. Barbara Serwaa Asamoah, the Deputy General Secretary, on March 14, 2025. This meticulously crafted document represented months of dedicated research and analysis, focusing on key sectors crucial for national development. The genesis of this initiative traced back to the period preceding the 2024 elections. Recognizing the need for informed policy recommendations, a committee had been formed to explore crucial areas and contribute to the party’s manifesto. However, due to the demanding timeline of the election campaign, the committee’s work couldn’t be fully realized at that time.

Following the NDC’s electoral victory, the Nordic Chapter revitalized the committee’s mandate, tasking them with developing a comprehensive policy proposal aligned with the newly elected government’s agenda. This initiative reflected the Nordic Chapter’s commitment to contributing substantively to the nation’s progress and supporting the party’s efforts in implementing its electoral promises. The committee embarked on a rigorous two-month journey of research and deliberation, delving into critical sectors such as education, energy and mining, finance and revenue generation, health, housing, industrialization and trade, security, youth employment, ICT, and transport. This broad scope demonstrated the committee’s dedication to addressing the multifaceted challenges and opportunities facing the country. Their objective was to provide concrete and actionable recommendations to the party leadership, as well as relevant ministries and agencies responsible for executing the government’s vision.

Upon completing their extensive research and analysis, the policy committee compiled their findings into a comprehensive report. This document represented the culmination of their collective efforts, encapsulating their in-depth understanding of the chosen sectors and their proposed solutions for maximizing their potential. Before submitting the report to the party headquarters, the committee sought internal review and approval. The completed report was first presented to the Nordic Chapter’s executive members for their scrutiny. A subsequent meeting was convened between the executive members and the policy committee to thoroughly discuss the report’s contents and recommendations. After a period of robust deliberation, the report received the full endorsement of the Nordic Chapter’s executive body.

The next step involved formally submitting the endorsed policy proposal to the NDC’s Functional Executive Committee, the body responsible for reviewing and approving party policies. To ensure efficient dissemination, a multi-pronged approach was adopted. A soft copy of the report was emailed to the International Relations Department, providing immediate access to the document. Simultaneously, two hard copies were prepared, one for delivery to the party headquarters and the other for the presidency. This ensured that key stakeholders within the party and the government had physical copies of the report for their consideration. The team from the Nordic Chapter diligently coordinated the submission process, culminating in the successful presentation of a hard copy of the report to the Deputy General Secretary, Hon. Barbara Asamoah.

Hon. Asamoah’s reception of the report underscored the importance of the Nordic Chapter’s contribution. She expressed her sincere appreciation to the team and the entire Nordic Chapter for their dedication and hard work in formulating a policy proposal designed to support the government’s agenda. This acknowledgment highlighted the value placed on the chapter’s proactive engagement and their commitment to contributing to the nation’s progress. Hon. Asamoah assured the delegation that the report would be given due consideration. She explained that it would be first discussed with the Director of International Relations, Hon. Alex Segbefia, before being forwarded to the Functional Executive Committee for further review and deliberation. This process ensured that the report would be thoroughly examined by relevant stakeholders before any final decisions were made.

The meeting concluded on a positive note, with the team from the Nordic Chapter expressing their gratitude to Hon. Asamoah for granting them an audience and receiving their submission. This exchange reflected the collaborative spirit between the Nordic Chapter and the party leadership, united in their commitment to advancing the nation’s development agenda. The presentation of the policy proposal represented a significant milestone in the Nordic Chapter’s ongoing efforts to contribute to the party’s vision and the government’s success. The comprehensive nature of the report, covering crucial sectors of the economy, demonstrated their dedication to providing well-researched and actionable recommendations. The subsequent review process by the Functional Executive Committee held the promise of translating these recommendations into concrete policies, ultimately benefiting the citizens of Ghana.
