The Lagos State Association of Vice Chairmen, a body representing the vice chairmen of local governments and local council development areas (LCDAs) across Lagos State, has inaugurated its first executive committee. This significant step marks the formal establishment of the association and underscores its commitment to enhanced collaboration, grassroots development, and effective local governance. The election of the executive committee took place during the association’s inaugural meeting, ushering in a new era of unified leadership and coordinated efforts among the vice chairmen.

The newly elected executive committee comprises representatives from various local governments and LCDAs, ensuring a balanced representation of interests and perspectives from across the state. Oluwatoyin Akerele, the Vice Chairman of Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government Area, will lead the association as Chairman, while Muizz Dosunmu, Vice Chairman of Surulere Local Government, will serve as his deputy. This leadership duo, along with the other elected officials, will be instrumental in steering the association’s activities and advocating for the interests of their constituents.

The composition of the executive committee reflects a strategic blend of experience and expertise. Kabir Kareem from Ijede LCDA assumes the role of General Secretary, responsible for the association’s administrative functions, while Murisiq Badru from Eti-Osa LG will support him as Assistant Secretary. AbdulGaniyu Obasa of Agege LG takes charge of public relations, tasked with communicating the association’s activities and achievements to the public. Mathew Olaleye of Coker-Aguda LCDA will serve as Legal Officer, providing legal counsel and guidance to the association. Adebisi Francis from Alimosho LG will oversee the welfare of members as Welfare Officer.

To ensure comprehensive representation across the state, zonal representatives were also elected for the three senatorial districts. Shakir Sadiq from Isolo LCDA will represent the West Senatorial District, Oluremi Alogba from Lekki LCDA will represent the East, and Ganiu Ismail from Apapa LG will represent the Central Senatorial District. This zonal representation aims to facilitate better communication and coordination between the association and the different geographical areas of Lagos State, ensuring that local concerns are effectively addressed.

The association has also established a Board of Trustees, chaired by Wasiu Dehinsilu of Ikosi-Ejirin LCDA, to provide oversight and guidance. This Board will play a crucial role in ensuring the association’s long-term stability and adherence to its objectives. Other key positions filled include Islamiyyat Aregbe of Oshodi-Isolo LG as Financial Secretary, responsible for managing the association’s finances, and Oluwole Sosanya of Kosofe LG as Treasurer.

Furthermore, four Ex-Officio members have been appointed to provide additional support and expertise to the executive committee: Nutayi Funmi from Badagry West LCDA, Adesegun Aluko from Ikorodu West LCDA, Moshood Momoh from Lagos Mainland LG, and Ashara Maureen from Amuwo-Odofin LG. Their inclusion further broadens the representation within the association and brings additional perspectives to the decision-making process. The establishment of this comprehensive leadership structure signifies the association’s commitment to effective governance and its readiness to tackle the challenges of local development. The association aims to serve as a platform for collaboration among vice chairmen, enabling them to share best practices, address common challenges, and collectively advocate for the needs of their communities. By working together, the vice chairmen seek to strengthen local governance, promote grassroots development, and improve the quality of life for all Lagos residents.
