The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) of Ghana has recently reassured the public about the stability of the Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) supply in the country, counteracting recent rumors suggesting a potential shortage. In an official press release issued on Thursday, the NPA highlighted that as of October 9, 2024, the stock of LPG was robust enough to meet nearly two weeks of the national demand. This information is vital in quelling any concerns or panic among consumers regarding the availability of LPG, a crucial energy source for many households and businesses in Ghana.
In light of the reported LPG shortages, the NPA pointed out the ongoing production activities at the Sentuo Oil Refinery, which operates daily and significantly contributes to the LPG supply within the nation. Additionally, the Authority revealed plans for the delivery of more than 20,000 metric tonnes of LPG scheduled between October 21 and October 27, 2024, as part of their LPG Tender program. Despite these efforts, the NPA has acknowledged that some LPG Marketing Companies (LPGMCs) have initiated a boycott of specific LPG terminals, leading to heightened pressure on the remaining depots in Tema. This situation has created operational challenges, as the refusal of these companies to load from certain depots has limited the daily volume of LPG that can be processed. The NPA is actively engaging with all stakeholders to prioritize loading and distribution to the Western Region, where the effects of the challenges have been felt most acutely.
