The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Germany branch has sharply criticized activist Oliver Barker-Vormawor for comparing the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) initiative to the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) policy, characterizing his remarks as misguided, reckless, and insulting to Ghanaians. Barker-Vormawor had asserted that ORAL, an anti-corruption task force, was “bigger than Free SHS” and could win the National Democratic Congress (NDC) multiple elections if implemented effectively. The NPP Germany vehemently disagrees, arguing that Free SHS has had a transformative impact on Ghanaian society, providing access to education for millions of youth, while ORAL is a politically charged initiative with questionable merit. They see Barker-Vormawor’s statement as prioritizing short-term political gain over the long-term benefits of education and development.

The NPP Germany’s press release emphasizes the immense positive impact of Free SHS, highlighting its role in liberating families from financial burdens, empowering students, and building a more skilled workforce. They contrast this with ORAL, which they view as a politically motivated initiative lacking the same societal benefit. The party believes that Barker-Vormawor’s comparison diminishes the significance of Free SHS and reflects a distorted understanding of national priorities. They accuse him of prioritizing short-term political maneuvering over long-term investment in education and human development.

According to the NPP Germany, Barker-Vormawor’s remarks reveal a worrying trend within political circles where immediate political gains overshadow long-term development goals. While acknowledging the importance of combating corruption, they insist that it should not overshadow the advancements made in education. They argue that Free SHS is a cornerstone of national development, promoting social mobility and equipping young Ghanaians with essential skills. The NPP Germany urges the public not to allow political rhetoric to undermine the significance of Free SHS.

The NPP Germany also criticizes Barker-Vormawor for what they perceive as a “slap in the face of Ghanaian youth.” They argue that Free SHS has provided opportunities for countless children from disadvantaged backgrounds, a fundamental right that Barker-Vormawor seems to dismiss in favor of a politically charged initiative. They accuse him of being detached from the realities of ordinary Ghanaians and prioritize partisan loyalty over the tangible benefits of Free SHS.

Furthermore, the NPP Germany accuses Barker-Vormawor and the NDC of hypocrisy, suggesting that ORAL is a desperate attempt to rewrite their history of alleged corruption. They question the oversight and transparency of ORAL, expressing skepticism about its effectiveness and suggesting it may be a political smokescreen. They contend that Barker-Vormawor’s endorsement of ORAL ignores the NDC’s past failures in addressing corruption.

The NPP Germany concludes its statement by reiterating its support for Free SHS and urging Ghanaians to prioritize policies that enhance their well-being over political theatrics. They view Free SHS as a sustainable investment in Ghana’s future, unlike what they consider the transient nature of ORAL. They accuse Barker-Vormawor of being a “partisan puppet” willing to sacrifice common sense for political gain and urge Ghanaians to see through this perceived charade. They express strong support for the Akufo-Addo and Bawumia administration and the NPP.
