The circumstances surrounding the death of Nigerian rapper Ilerioluwa Aloba, known as Mohbad, continue to unfold, with the testimony of the auxiliary nurse, Feyisayo Ogedengbe, shedding light on the events leading up to his tragic demise. Ogedengbe, who administered treatment to Mohbad just hours before his death, recounted the sequence of events before the Coroner’s Court in Ikorodu, Lagos. Her testimony detailed the administration of a tetanus injection, a subsequent adverse reaction, and the frantic efforts to save the rapper’s life. The case raises questions about the standard of care provided and the potential contributing factors to Mohbad’s untimely passing.

Ogedengbe’s narrative began on September 12, 2024, when she received a call from Ayobami Sodiq, known as Spending, requesting her services for Mohbad. Arriving at the rapper’s Lekki residence, she observed a swollen cut on his right hand. Following her assessment, she administered a tetanus injection to Mohbad’s upper arm. Additionally, she noted that Mohbad had an ulcer and proceeded to administer paracetamol, opting against diclofenac. She also injected him with diluted paracetamol and a slow dose of ceftriaxone, an antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections.

Following the injections, Mohbad experienced discomfort and vomited. Upon his return to the room, Ogedengbe noticed goosebumps on his body. When she pointed this out to Mohbad’s wife, Omowunmi, she allegedly dismissed it as a normal reaction to injections. This seemingly casual dismissal of a potential allergic reaction becomes a key element in the unfolding narrative. Ogedengbe expressed surprise that she had not been previously informed of Mohbad’s purported sensitivity to injections.

Recognizing the escalating seriousness of the situation, Ogedengbe and Sodiq embarked on a desperate search for medication to counteract the apparent allergic reaction. Their initial attempt at a nearby pharmacy proved unsuccessful due to delays, forcing them to seek another location. Upon their return with hydrocortisone and saline solution, they found that Mohbad’s condition had deteriorated significantly, and preparations were underway to transport him to the hospital. The delay in obtaining the necessary medication and the subsequent challenges in securing transport raise further questions about the timeliness and adequacy of the response to Mohbad’s deteriorating health.

Due to traffic congestion and a lack of available vehicles, Mohbad was ultimately transported to the hospital by motorcycle. Upon arrival, he was tragically pronounced dead by the medical team. Ogedengbe also recalled an initial hesitation by hospital staff to treat Mohbad, adding another layer of complexity to the timeline of events. Following his death, Mohbad’s body was returned to his residence, and Ogedengbe and Sodiq proceeded to the Orchid Lekki Police Station to obtain a death certificate. They were subsequently directed to the Ajiwe Police Station in Ajah to file a report. This process highlights the legal and procedural steps taken following the rapper’s sudden death.

The legal proceedings surrounding Mohbad’s death have implicated Ogedengbe and Sodiq, who face potential prosecution for reckless and negligent acts under the Criminal Law of Lagos State. This legal action stems from the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions’ statement at a Magistrate Court in Sabo, Yaba, Lagos, in February 2025. While other prominent figures in the music industry, including Naira Marley, Sam Larry, Primeboy, and Mohbad’s former manager, Opere Babatunde, were acquitted, the focus remains on the actions of the auxiliary nurse and Spending. The ongoing investigation aims to determine the extent of their responsibility in Mohbad’s death.

The Coroner’s Court hearing, with testimonies from key figures involved in the events leading up to Mohbad’s death, is a crucial step in piecing together the full picture. Ogedengbe’s account, while providing some clarity, also raises numerous questions that require further investigation. The delay in obtaining necessary medication, the alleged dismissal of Mohbad’s initial reaction by his wife, and the challenges in transporting him to the hospital all warrant careful scrutiny. The legal proceedings will ultimately determine whether the actions of Ogedengbe and Sodiq contributed to the tragic loss of the young rapper. The quest for justice continues, as the court sifts through the evidence and testimonies to establish the truth behind Mohbad’s untimely passing.
