The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Warri Correspondents’ Chapel, is poised to celebrate its 2025 Press Week with a momentous occasion – the formal inauguration of its multi-million naira permanent secretariat. This remarkable achievement is courtesy of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited, a private pipeline security outfit contracted by the Federal Government and operating in the Niger Delta region. The company not only constructed the edifice but also meticulously furnished it, marking a significant milestone for the NUJ in Delta State and the nation at large.

The inauguration ceremony, scheduled for Friday, June 27, 2025, will be graced by the presence of Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, as the Special Guest of Honour. He is expected to officially open the secretariat by cutting the symbolic ribbon. The event will also feature a public lecture addressing a critical national concern: the fight against oil theft. The lecture, titled “Fight Against Oil Theft: The Impact of Private Security and Role of the Media,” will be chaired by Prof. Ezekiel Agbalagba, the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Petroleum Resources. Captain Wariedi Enisuoh, the Executive Director, Technical/Operations, of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited, will deliver the keynote address, sharing insights into the role of private security and the media in combating this pervasive issue.

The NUJ Warri Correspondents’ Chapel, deeply appreciative of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited’s generosity, has chosen to honor the company’s chairman by naming the new press center after him. This gesture underscores the profound impact of the company’s contribution, providing the Union with a permanent home and solidifying a relationship of mutual respect and collaboration. The secretariat’s establishment signifies not just a physical space, but a symbol of progress, stability, and enhanced capacity for the NUJ to carry out its vital role in the region.

Beyond the inauguration ceremony, the 2025 Press Week will encompass other activities aimed at community engagement and promoting peace. A sensitization campaign themed “NUJ say no to crisis in Warri” will see members of the Union marching through prominent streets in the oil-rich city, advocating for peace and stability amongst residents. This initiative highlights the NUJ’s commitment to not only reporting on events but also actively participating in fostering a harmonious environment conducive to development and progress.

The anticipation surrounding the 2025 Press Week is palpable, reflecting the significance of the secretariat’s inauguration and the broader implications for the NUJ. This event symbolizes more than just bricks and mortar; it represents a strengthened platform for journalistic endeavors, a testament to the potential of public-private partnerships, and a commitment to peace and progress in the Niger Delta region.

The Press Week Committee, led by Chairman Dele Fasan and Secretary Akpokona Omafuaire, has meticulously planned the week’s activities, ensuring a memorable and impactful celebration. The joint statement issued by the committee encapsulates the collective excitement and gratitude towards Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited. This event promises to be a landmark achievement, not just for the NUJ Warri Correspondents’ Chapel, but also for the broader journalistic community and the Niger Delta region as a whole. It marks a new era of enhanced capability and underscores the importance of collaborative efforts in addressing critical national issues.
