The Liberia National Red Cross Society (LNRCS), in solidarity with the global Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, commemorated World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day 2025 under the poignant theme “On the Side of Humanity.” This theme serves as a powerful testament to the unwavering dedication of countless volunteers and staff members worldwide who tirelessly serve those affected by conflict, natural disasters, and public health emergencies. The LNRCS actively participated in the global observance by mobilizing its local branches across Liberia to organize various indoor events, community service initiatives, and humanitarian aid distributions. These activities embodied the core principles of humanitarianism, particularly the fundamental principle of Humanity, which underscores the Red Cross’s mission and guides its actions.

The Secretary General of the LNRCS, Mr. Gregory Blamoh, underscored the critical importance of sustained humanitarian action in addressing the multitude of crises affecting both the world and Liberia. He reiterated the organization’s unwavering pledge to stand in solidarity with vulnerable populations, displaced communities, and those facing distress. Mr. Blamoh emphasized that the theme “On the Side of Humanity” transcends a mere slogan; it represents a compelling call to action, urging individuals and organizations to actively contribute to alleviating human suffering. Coinciding with the 60th anniversary of the Fundamental Principles of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, the LNRCS proudly reflected on its significant contributions across Liberia over the past year. The organization highlighted its achievements in various areas, including health and care initiatives, crisis and disaster response efforts, climate and environmental action, and promoting values, inclusion, and human dignity. These endeavors demonstrate the LNRCS’s comprehensive approach to addressing complex humanitarian challenges and building more resilient communities.

The LNRCS paid tribute to the courageous humanitarian workers who tragically lost their lives while serving others. Mr. Blamoh acknowledged the immense sacrifice made by 34 colleagues in conflict zones during 2024 and an additional 10 in 2025. Their selfless dedication serves as a stark reminder of the dangers faced by aid workers and the imperative to protect humanitarian space, ensuring access to those in need without fear or obstruction. He urged global and national leaders to uphold humanitarian principles and guarantee the safety and security of aid workers who risk their lives daily to provide vital assistance.

Continuing this theme of recognizing the vital work of humanitarian personnel, the LNRCS emphasized the crucial role played by its volunteers and staff, a majority of whom originate from the very communities they serve. Their unwavering commitment stands as a beacon of hope, unity, and resilience in the face of adversity. The LNRCS called upon communities, partners, and authorities to acknowledge and support the invaluable contributions of these individuals, who are the backbone of the organization’s humanitarian efforts. This support is essential for ensuring the sustainability and effectiveness of their work in addressing the diverse needs of vulnerable populations.

In essence, the World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day 2025 served as a powerful platform for the LNRCS to reaffirm its commitment to humanitarian principles, celebrate the dedication of its volunteers and staff, and call for greater support and protection for aid workers. The chosen theme, “On the Side of Humanity,” encapsulates the essence of the Red Cross Movement’s mission and underscores the importance of collective action in addressing global humanitarian challenges. By highlighting the organization’s accomplishments, paying tribute to fallen colleagues, and emphasizing the need for continued support, the LNRCS effectively conveyed the significance of this day and its enduring commitment to serving humanity.

The LNRCS’s observance of World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day 2025 was a multifaceted endeavor, encompassing not only symbolic events but also concrete actions demonstrating the organization’s commitment to humanitarian principles. By mobilizing its local branches across Liberia to organize various indoor events, community service initiatives, and humanitarian aid distributions, the LNRCS translated the global theme into tangible actions that directly benefited the communities it serves. These activities, ranging from providing essential supplies to offering vital health and care services, reflect the comprehensive approach the LNRCS takes in addressing the diverse needs of vulnerable populations.
