The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has reiterated its commitment to transforming into a customer-centric organization that aligns with the expectations of both local and international businesses. This pledge was made by the CAC Registrar-General/CEO, Hussaini Magaji, during the inauguration of the 2024 Management Retreat held in Jos, Plateau State. The retreat’s theme, “Repositioning the Corporate Affairs Commission for Enhanced Service Delivery,” highlights the agency’s intention to evolve and adapt its services to better meet the needs of its diverse customer base amidst changing market dynamics.

Magaji emphasized the necessity of reimagining the CAC’s existing organizational framework to develop a more dynamic and flexible structure. He stressed that a comprehensive overhaul of the current organogram is essential for the agency to thrive in line with global standards. The Registrar-General pointed out that the integration of advanced technologies is vital for executing certain tasks efficiently, which is pivotal for adapting to the evolving requirements of customers. This approach reflects CAC’s recognition of its role as a learning organization prepared to innovate in response to current and anticipated client needs.

In discussing the significance of the retreat’s theme, the Registrar-General urged participants to not only address existing customer needs but also to proactively anticipate future requirements. He highlighted the risk of organizational processes becoming obsolete if they do not evolve timely. Furthermore, he revealed plans to restructure the operations and core functions of state offices, with a heightened emphasis on post-incorporation activities. This initiative aims to create units that focus primarily on compliance and enforcement, thereby transforming these offices into strategic centers equipped to handle effective regulatory oversight.

As part of this restructuring, the CAC intends to ensure that its personnel are adequately trained and empowered to perform compliance and enforcement duties ethically. Magaji mentioned the establishment of a committee tasked with developing a comprehensive blueprint for this new direction, drawing on insights from jurisdictions like Malaysia and China, while also considering the relevant experiences of similar entities. This collaborative approach aims to leverage global best practices in enhancing the service delivery of the CAC.

The commitment to repositioning the CAC garnered praise from notable figures during the retreat, including Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang. Representing the governor, Commissioner of Trade and Industry Musa Sule commended the efforts of the Registrar-General in modernizing the commission. Sule also utilized the occasion to showcase the economic potential of Plateau State, hinting at opportunities for partnership between the state and the reformed CAC. Additionally, the Director-General/CEO of the Industrial Training Fund (ITF), Dr. Afiz Ogun, endorsed the Registrar-General’s determination to revitalize the CAC and acknowledged the positive impact the commission’s transformation could have on the broader business landscape.

The ongoing efforts to reshape the CAC reflect an understanding of the importance of customer satisfaction in today’s competitive environment. By focusing on both immediate and long-term customer needs, the Commission aims to enhance service delivery continually and establish itself as a model registry on a global scale. The necessary changes and adaptations proposed by the CAC leadership signify a progressive step toward fulfilling the aspirations of businesses that rely on efficient and transparent regulatory processes, ultimately contributing to a healthier economic environment in Nigeria.
