Christened the Maternal and Newborn Mortality Reduction Innovation and Initiative (MAMII), this program represents a significant stride towards ensuring safer pregnancies and childbirth experiences for women across the state. MAMII’s core strategy revolves around identifying and addressing critical gaps in maternal healthcare through evidence-based interventions, community engagement, and the strengthening of existing health systems. The initiative’s implementation roadmap, presented to Governor Dapo Abiodun, underscores the government’s unwavering dedication to improving maternal and newborn survival rates. Two local government areas, Ado-Odo/Ota and Ijebu-Ode, were selected as focal points for an in-depth analysis of maternal mortality trends. This includes the recent recruitment of over 472 community health workers, a move lauded as a “game-changer” for maternal healthcare in Ogun State.
