The event marked a significant milestone, being the first competitive boxing awards ceremony held on the continent, setting a precedent for future celebrations of the sweet science.

Taiwo “Esehpo” Agbaje dominated the competitive categories, earning the coveted Male Fighter of the Year award and solidifying his popularity by claiming the Fans’ Favourite award. His memorable clash with Rilwan Lawal was also highlighted, earning recognition as one of the Fights of the Year, underscoring the high level of competition and excitement generated by the bout. Elizabeth Oshoba secured the Female Fighter of the Year award, highlighting the increasing prominence and recognition of women’s boxing in Nigeria. These awards underscored the high level of skill, dedication, and sportsmanship displayed by these athletes throughout the year.

A poignant moment of the evening was the posthumous Ultimate Sacrifice Award presented to the family of Gabriel Oluwasegun Olanrewaju, a tragic reminder of the inherent risks in the sport. Olanrewaju lost his life during a boxing match in Accra, Ghana, earlier in the year. The award served as a solemn tribute to his commitment and bravery, acknowledging the ultimate price he paid while pursuing his passion. Isaac Chukwudi received the Comeback of the Year award, a testament to his resilience and determination in overcoming setbacks to achieve success. Animasahun “Baddo” Raheem was recognized as the Rising Prospect, highlighting his potential and promising future in the sport. Appah Godday and Ojo Joy were celebrated for their influence beyond the ring, winning the Male and Female Social Media Influencer awards respectively, demonstrating the growing intersection of sports and social media in expanding the reach of boxing. Agboola Durotimi’s surprising victory earned him the Upset of the Year award, further illustrating the unpredictable nature and excitement of the sport.

The awards ceremony also shone a spotlight on the individuals and organizations instrumental in the growth and development of Nigerian boxing. Olaore Adams was recognized as the Outstanding Amateur Fighter, representing the future of the sport. Coach Abimbola Kola received the Trainer of the Year award, acknowledging his crucial role in shaping and guiding athletes to success. Rasheed Idowu’s powerful performance earned him the Knockout of the Year award, showcasing the raw power and excitement of the sport. Dr. Rafiu Ladipo, the head of the Nigerian Boxing Board of Control (NBBofC), was honored with the Excellence in Boxing Leadership Award, recognizing his significant contribution to the sport’s governance and development in the country.

Flykite Productions received the prestigious Promotion of the Decade award, highlighting their consistent commitment and influence in shaping the boxing landscape over the past ten years. Several other promotional outfits, including Monarch Event & Promotion, De-Lads Boxing Promotion, and Saleh Gloves Promotions, were awarded the Excellence in Boxing Promotion award for their crucial role in nurturing and developing young boxing talent within Nigeria. This recognition underscored the importance of strong promotional efforts in building the sport and providing opportunities for emerging fighters. Game Rush was singled out for its innovative promotional strategies, receiving the Innovation in Boxing Promotion award. Additional recognition went to Glorious Sports Promotion, Core Afrique Boxing Promotion, Yucateco Boxing Promotion, and Naijahood Star Boxing Promotion, further highlighting the breadth and depth of promotional activity contributing to the growth of Nigerian boxing.

The awards ceremony also recognized individuals who played vital roles beyond the ring. Ring announcer Ralph George was named Ring Announcer of the Year, acknowledging his contribution to the atmosphere and excitement of boxing events. Káyodé Ólúwà received the Combat Sport Photographer of the Year award, capturing the intensity and drama of the sport through his lens. Remi Aboderin, Babatunde Laguda, and Jude Onovwakpor received awards recognizing their dedication to promoting and advancing Nigerian boxing.
