The All Progressives Congress (APC) North-Central Forum has expressed its approval of the national leadership’s inclusion of its members in the newly established National Campaign Council for the Ondo State governorship election. In a public statement, Saleh Zazzaga, the Forum’s Chairman, praised APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, for his efforts in ensuring active participation from various factions of the party. On October 28, 2024, Ganduje announced the formation of a 305-member National Campaign Council aimed at rallying support for the upcoming governorship election in Ondo State, with key figures in the party appointed to various leadership roles within the council.
The Campaign Council is spearheaded by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, complemented by other significant positions such as Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, who oversees the Finance Committee, and Senate President Godswill Akpabio serving as deputy. Furthermore, the Media and Publicity Committee is under the leadership of Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni, with Minister of Information Idris Mohammed as his deputy. The committee overseeing security is chaired by Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum and his counterpart from Gombe State, Inuwa Yahaya. The council is also supported by experienced members such as former Deputy Senate President Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State, and Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, demonstrating a comprehensive representation from across the party.
In his remarks, Zazzaga highlighted that the inclusion of various sections of the party indicates a concerted commitment to unity and collaboration. He commended Ganduje for promoting inclusivity, which he believes is essential for the party’s success in the Ondo State election as well as in future engagements. The consolidation of different factions was recognized as a strategy for ensuring a solid front for the APC, thereby enhancing its chances of achieving victory in Ondo State. Zazzaga emphasized the importance of unity, linking it to the overarching vision outlined in President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which aims to revitalize national fortunes through collective efforts.
Zazzaga encouraged Ganduje to maintain this policy of inclusiveness, ensuring that all members have a voice in the party’s agendas, which he asserts is fundamental for collective progress. He reaffirmed the North-Central Forum’s commitment to supporting Ganduje’s leadership and the party at large. This sentiment aligns with the Forum’s dedication to advancing both the party’s interests and the broader goal of national development in Nigeria. Zazzaga also called on the citizens of Ondo State to actively participate in the electoral process and vote for the APC candidate, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, underscoring Aiyedatiwa’s commendable track record as a basis for his re-election.
Highlighting Governor Aiyedatiwa’s achievements, Zazzaga pointed out the recent decision to establish a minimum wage of N73,000 for workers in Ondo State as a testament to the governor’s commitment to the welfare of citizens. Zazzaga’s firm belief in Aiyedatiwa’s capability to lead the state toward further progress and economic development came through clearly. He urged voters to rally behind the governor in the upcoming election scheduled for November 16, 2024, framing the campaign as a collective effort aimed at consolidating the gains already made in Ondo State.
Additionally, Zazzaga conveyed a message of support for President Bola Tinubu, urging Nigerians to demonstrate patience as he navigates complex economic challenges. Zazzaga acknowledged that the issues the President faces are long-standing and called for public understanding regarding the time required for the effects of Tinubu’s policy initiatives to be realized. He expressed confidence that the President is attuned to the citizens’ struggles and is passionately working to implement reforms that will improve the nation’s circumstances. By reinforcing the notion of unity and supportive governance, Zazzaga portrayed both party and national leadership as pivotal in driving Nigeria toward a more prosperous future in line with Tinubu’s vision.
