Oyebanji’s Declaration: A Bid for Continuity and Consolidation in Ekiti State

Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji has formally announced his intention to seek re-election for a second term in office. This declaration, made during a meeting with the All Progressives Congress (APC) Central Working Committee, marks a significant moment in Ekiti’s political landscape. Oyebanji’s decision, driven by widespread public support and political endorsements, aims to solidify the achievements of his first term and continue delivering effective governance to the people of Ekiti.

Oyebanji’s announcement was met with enthusiastic approval from the APC leadership and party members. He expressed gratitude for the unwavering support he had received from traditional leaders, professional organizations, civil servants, artisans, youth groups, market women, drivers’ unions, and political figures across various parties. This broad base of support reinforces the governor’s claim of widespread acceptance and underscores the potential for a successful re-election campaign.

The governor emphasized the unity within the Ekiti APC, dismissing rumors of internal strife. He acknowledged the leadership roles of former governors Niyi Adebayo and Kayode Fayemi, reaffirming their positions within the party hierarchy. This clarification serves to dispel any speculations about potential divisions within the APC, presenting a united front as the party prepares for the upcoming election.

Oyebanji’s re-election bid focuses on consolidating the gains of his first term. He pledged to continue prioritizing quality governance, improved infrastructure, and economic development for the benefit of Ekiti citizens. He highlighted his commitment to internal democracy within the APC, encouraging other aspirants to contest for the party’s ticket, demonstrating a commitment to fair and transparent internal party processes.

The governor’s declaration was well-received by party leaders, who praised his leadership qualities and achievements in his first term. Sola Elesin, the APC State Chairman, lauded Oyebanji’s unifying leadership style, accessibility, and performance, emphasizing his broad appeal within the party and the general public. The presence of key government officials, including the Deputy Governor, Speaker of the House of Assembly, Secretary to the State Government, Chief of Staff, and Special Adviser on Political Matters, further demonstrates the strong support within the administration for Oyebanji’s re-election.

Looking ahead to the June 2026 governorship election, Oyebanji urged eligible voters to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to ensure their participation in the democratic process. He also expressed gratitude for the support of President Bola Tinubu and highlighted the positive impact of the president’s economic policies on Ekiti’s development. This alignment with the national leadership suggests a coordinated approach to governance and development in Ekiti State, further strengthening Oyebanji’s position within the APC. The declaration sets the stage for an engaging election cycle in Ekiti, with Oyebanji positioning himself as a candidate of continuity and progress.
