Bishop David Oyedepo, the founder of Living Faith Church (Winners Chapel), recently honored Bishop David Abioye, the church’s First Vice President, during a retirement valedictory service in Abuja. Oyedepo praised Abioye’s four-decade journey in ministry, highlighting that he has never faced struggles in his service, attributing this to divine blessings at work in his life. He expressed gratitude for their divine partnership, asserting that their connection was orchestrated by God, emphasizing the importance of spiritual relationships within ministry. The event also marked the retirement of Vice President Thomas Aremu, aligning with the church’s constitutional guidelines, known as The Mandate.

Abioye’s history with the ministry dates back to 1979 when he first met Oyedepo, culminating in a leadership role when he pioneered one of the church’s branches in 1987. His consecration as a bishop in 1993 at the age of 32 further underscores his commitment to the church’s mission. During his speech, Oyedepo reflected on the significance of divine blessings over human skills or expertise, asserting that the church’s accomplishments stem from adherence to the Liberation Mandate, a divine blueprint that guides the church’s vision and operations.

Pastor Faith Oyedepo, Bishop Oyedepo’s wife, also reiterated the humble beginnings and deep-rooted history shared with Bishop Abioye. She recounted their early struggles, from camp meetings held in secondary schools to the present thriving church environment, illustrating God’s unwavering faithfulness throughout their shared journey. Faith’s reflections were a reminder of the challenges overcome and the growth they have experienced as a ministry, reinforcing the sense of community and commitment that has characterized their collective work over the past 40 years.

Bishop Abioye was recognized not only for his service to Living Faith Church but also for the broader impact he has made in the Christian community. Pastor Paul Enenche, the Senior Pastor of Dunamis International Gospel Centre, underscored that Abioye’s life exemplified the importance of making a difference rather than merely earning a living. His unwavering dedication to create a lasting impact rather than seek recognition was celebrated as a testament to his character and commitment to God’s work. This sentiment was echoed by Archbishop John Praise, who lauded Abioye’s exceptional humility, noting that his service was marked by a grace rarely seen in others in similar positions.

In his response to the accolades received during the retirement celebration, Bishop Abioye expressed profound gratitude for the opportunity to serve alongside Bishop Oyedepo, emphasizing that his ministry journey has always been about fulfilling divine purpose rather than personal ambition. He attributed his ministry’s success and personal growth to the guidance and inspiration provided by his spiritual father. Abioye acknowledged the depth of their relationship, which has flourished for nearly 45 years, significantly influencing his faith journey, family life, and ministry approach.

As Abioye transitions into retirement, he looks forward to continuing his ministry under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, reinforcing the commitment to fulfilling God’s purpose in his life. He articulated that the bond formed with Oyedepo and the church over the years will remain integral to his post-retirement activities, indicating a desire to remain engaged in church affairs and the wider Christian community. His journey and the close relationship with Oyedepo stand as a testament to a shared vision, signaling a legacy built on divine purpose, dedication, and unwavering faith.
