The Oyo State Government, under the leadership of Governor Seyi Makinde, has taken a significant step towards bolstering its local government workforce by converting 1,591 ad hoc employees to permanent staff. This move, announced by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Ademola Ojo, fulfills a promise made by the governor in October of the preceding year. The initiative aims to address the existing staffing gap within the 33 local government councils across the state, ensuring more efficient and effective service delivery to the citizenry.

The conversion process, according to the commissioner, adhered strictly to established procedures, ensuring fairness and transparency in the selection and appointment of the new permanent staff. This meticulous approach underscores the government’s commitment to upholding meritocratic principles in its employment practices. The newly appointed staff members, now integrated into the permanent workforce, are expected to contribute significantly to the development and progress of their respective local government areas.

The distribution of appointment letters, scheduled to commence on Monday, February 3, 2025, and conclude on Thursday, February 6, 2025, will be conducted at the Local Government Service Commission. The staggered collection schedule, organized by job cadre, is designed to ensure a smooth and orderly process, minimizing congestion and facilitating efficient distribution. This structured approach reflects the government’s dedication to providing a seamless and respectful experience for the newly appointed staff.

The collection schedule categorizes the new employees into distinct groups based on their respective roles. Those in professional and technical cadres, including Administrative Officers, Agricultural Officers, Data Processing Officers, Engineering, Building, and Quantity Surveyors, Estate Valuation Officers, Environmental Health Officers, Information Officers, and Land Surveyors, are scheduled to collect their appointment letters on Monday, February 3, 2025. This prioritization acknowledges the importance of these roles in the functioning of local government administration.

Clerical Officers are slated to receive their appointment letters on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, followed by Messengers and Cleaners on Wednesday, February 5, 2025. Finally, those in operational roles, such as drivers/mechanics, articulated vehicle drivers, and watchmen, will collect their letters on Thursday, February 6, 2025. This systematic approach ensures a well-organized and efficient distribution process, minimizing inconvenience for the new employees.

The Commissioner emphasized the importance of personal collection, strictly prohibiting the use of proxies. This measure is designed to ensure the security and integrity of the appointment process, preventing potential fraud or misrepresentation. The Commissioner extended his best wishes to the successful candidates, expressing confidence in their ability to contribute positively to the local government service and the overall development of Oyo State. This conversion represents a significant investment in the human capital of the local governments, promising improved service delivery and enhanced governance at the grassroots level.
