The Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has launched a preemptive strike ahead of the upcoming National Assembly by-elections, demanding the immediate removal of the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Dr. Anugbum Onuaha. The party’s caretaker committee chairman, Dr. Anthony Aziegbemi, voiced this demand during a press conference, accusing Onuaha of compromising the integrity of the last gubernatorial election and thereby eroding public trust in his impartiality. This call for removal comes as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled by-elections for August 16th to fill vacancies in the Edo Central Senatorial District and Ovia Federal Constituency, positions previously held by Senator Monday Okpebholo and Dennis Idahosa, respectively.
