Kano Pillars have officially announced the acquisition of two notable players from the Super Eagles, Ahmed Musa and Shehu Abdullahi, for the remainder of the Nigeria Premier League season. This confirmation was shared through their X handle, indicating a significant boost to the team’s roster and prospects. Both Musa, the squad captain, and Abdullahi have been included in the matchday lineup for an upcoming game against Sunshine Stars, scheduled to be held at their home ground, the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium in Katsina. The addition of these two international players is seen as a strategic move aimed at enhancing the team’s performance as they navigate the challenges of the current season.

Ahmed Musa, who has had a storied career both domestically and internationally, returns to Kano Pillars for what marks his third stint with the club. His prior association dates back to the 2009/10 season when he made a significant impact by scoring 18 goals in 25 appearances. This remarkable achievement set a record that lasted until 2011, when it was surpassed by Jude Aneke of Kaduna United F.C. After moving through various clubs in Europe, including VVV-Venlo, CSKA Moscow, Leicester City, and Al Nassr, Musa made a brief return to Kano Pillars in 2021. He featured in eight matches during this time but subsequently re-entered European football, playing for Turkish clubs Fatih Karagümrük and Sivasspor, with whom he parted ways a few months ago.

Shehu Abdullahi, also a Super Eagles representative, joins Musa in bringing additional talent and experience to the team. At 31, Abdullahi is known for his versatility as both a defensive midfielder and a defender. His professional journey began with Kano Pillars in 2012, showcasing his talent for two years before pursuing opportunities abroad. His career took him to several international clubs, including Qadsia, União da Madeira, Anorthosis, Bursaspor, Omonia, and Levski Sofia. With his return to Kano Pillars, Abdullahi aims to make an immediate impact and solidify the team’s defensive capabilities.

Kano Pillars, once a dominant force in Nigerian football, finds themselves in a challenging position at the moment. After a lackluster start to the 2024/25 season, where they have managed only four points in four matches, the club currently sits in 14th place on the league table, trailing the leaders, Remo Stars, by a hefty eight points. The addition of Musa and Abdullahi is anticipated to revitalize the team’s efforts and enhance their competitiveness as they strive to improve their standing in the league. The fans in Katsina are excited to see how the experienced duo will influence the team’s performance as they adapt to their roles.

Both players are expected to take center stage and become key figures for Kano Pillars as the team aims to chase down points and improve their league position. Their presence is expected to galvanize the fans and provide a renewed sense of optimism within the squad. Musa’s track record as a prolific scorer combined with Abdullahi’s defensive acumen could strike the perfect balance the team needs to overcome their sluggish start this season. With their experience and skills, both players have the potential to transform the team’s fortunes.

As the season progresses, the performances of Ahmed Musa and Shehu Abdullahi will be closely monitored by fans, analysts, and club management alike. Their contributions on the pitch will not only be crucial in determining the outcomes of upcoming fixtures but will also play a significant role in the overall morale and cohesion within the team. It remains to be seen how effectively they will integrate into the squad and what impact they ultimately have on Kano Pillars’ aspirations in the Nigeria Premier League as they look to reclaim their status as one of the top teams in the league.
