The Ghana Police Service has taken proactive measures in anticipation of the final political rallies for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), scheduled for December 5. Recognizing the significance of these events in the lead-up to the upcoming elections, the police have announced specific road diversions to ensure safety and smooth movement for supporters attending the rallies. The NPP rally will occur at the University of Ghana Sports Park, while the NDC rally will take place at Zurak Park in Madina. These measures are part of the police’s strategic planning to manage traffic and prevent any potential disruptions as large crowds gather for both rallies.
For supporters heading to the NPP rally, particular routes have been designated to facilitate their arrival. Those traveling from the Adentan area are instructed to turn left at Ritz Junction, making their way through Aviation and utilizing the UPSA road or Okonglo area to reach the University of Ghana without entering Madina. Meanwhile, supporters coming from the Dome direction are advised to take a right turn at Hasto Junction and access the University of Ghana via GIMPA. These specified directions aim to minimize traffic congestion and enhance safety as thousands of supporters converge for the event.
On the other hand, attendees of the NDC rally in Madina are also provided with clear guidance on their routes. Supporters traveling from the Tetteh Quarshie Roundabout should turn right at Shiashi towards UPSA and then proceed left onto the main Madina-Accra road, effectively bypassing the University of Ghana road. Those coming from Dome are advised to turn left at the KFC Junction on Hasto road towards Wisconsin, facilitating access to Zongo Junction without traffic through Legon. With these diversions, the police aim to enhance traffic flow and minimize disruptions during this critical time.
In addition to road diversions, the police are implementing a strategic roadblock at the NDC rally location to prevent congestion and ensure that access remains clear. This security measure reflects the Police Service’s commitment to managing large crowds effectively while ensuring public safety. The police have also encouraged all supporters to follow the designated diversions closely and to cooperate with police officers assigned to the routes. This cooperation is vital for maintaining order and reducing the likelihood of incidents during the rallies.
The Ghana Police Service has also made provisions for assistance and inquiries through their dedicated Police Emergency Centre for Election 2024. Supporters and the public are encouraged to use the toll-free number 0800 311 311 for any immediate needs or questions regarding the events and their respective security arrangements. ACP Grace Ansah-Akrofi, Director of the Public Affairs Directorate, emphasized the importance of these communication channels as a means of facilitating smooth operations during the rallies.
In summary, the preparation for the final rallies of the NPP and NDC highlights the Ghana Police Service’s commitment to ensuring peace, security, and order during this politically charged period. With careful planning, including clear road diversions and a strong police presence at the events, the police are working hard to guarantee the safety of supporters and the broader public. This proactive approach, complemented by direct communication with the public, aims to foster a peaceful and successful rally experience as the nation approaches its pivotal election.
