The political landscape of Ghana has undergone a significant transformation, marked by a surge in public confidence in the national leadership. A June 2025 nationwide survey conducted by Global InfoAnalytics reveals a dramatic increase in approval ratings for President John Dramani Mahama and a widespread belief that the country is moving in the right direction. This positive shift in public sentiment, considered unprecedented by political observers, has permeated across nearly all regions of the country, signaling a potential realignment of voter loyalties and a decline in traditional partisan divides.

The survey results paint a picture of growing optimism and trust in the government’s performance. A resounding 70% of voters believe Ghana is on the right track, a significant jump from 62% in April 2025. Conversely, the number of respondents who feel the country is heading in the wrong direction has plummeted to 20% from 26% in the same period. This positive trajectory is mirrored in President Mahama’s job approval rating, which has soared to 73%, with only 19% expressing disapproval. This surge in popularity is particularly noteworthy in regions traditionally considered strongholds of the opposition, suggesting a potential shift in voter allegiances and a weakening of traditional political boundaries.

The rise in public confidence extends beyond the president’s personal approval ratings to encompass the government’s overall performance. An impressive 79% of respondents rate the government’s performance as excellent, very good, or good, reflecting a growing satisfaction with the administration’s policies and initiatives. This represents a positive trend from the April 2025 survey, where 76% held a positive view of the government’s performance. This upward trend in public perception suggests that the government’s efforts to transform the economy and improve public services are resonating with the electorate.

A closer examination of the survey data reveals a breakdown of public satisfaction with government performance: 27% rate it as excellent, a notable increase from 21% in April; 52% consider it good or very good, a slight dip from 55% in the previous survey; while 9% deem it average and 12% rate it as poor respectively. This suggests that the increase in overall positive sentiment is primarily driven by a growing number of citizens perceiving the government’s performance as “excellent,” indicating a strengthening of positive sentiment towards the administration.

Furthermore, the survey highlights a nuanced shift in voter sentiment within the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP). While a significant portion (46%) of NPP-aligned voters still disapprove of President Mahama’s performance, a surprisingly large segment (43%) now express approval. This narrowing partisan divide, particularly within the opposition ranks, underscores the broader appeal of the current administration and suggests a potential softening of traditional political allegiances. This evolving political landscape could have significant implications for the upcoming December elections.

With the December elections fast approaching, the survey results indicate a significant political momentum for the Mahama administration. The increased public confidence, the rise in presidential approval ratings, and the growing satisfaction with the government’s performance all point towards a favorable political climate for the incumbent government. This surge in positive public opinion provides a strong foundation for the administration as it continues to implement its key programs and strives to deliver on its promises to the electorate. The upcoming elections will provide a definitive test of whether this positive momentum can translate into electoral success.
