The serene atmosphere of Woeviakpodzi, a tranquil community nestled within the Anloga District of Ghana’s Volta Region, was shattered on Wednesday, June 25, 2025. The discovery of 71-year-old retired teacher, Kodzo W. Sosa, lifeless in a farm well plunged the community into a state of profound shock and grief. The unsettling circumstances surrounding Mr. Sosa’s demise have left residents grappling with fear and unanswered questions, as the investigation into this tragic incident unfolds.

The unfortunate sequence of events commenced on Sunday, June 23, 2025, when Mr. Sosa’s family reported his disappearance to the community. Frantic searches were immediately launched, but despite the collective efforts of concerned residents, their attempts to locate Mr. Sosa proved fruitless. Three agonizing days later, their worst fears were realized when his body was discovered in the well. The news of the grim discovery spread like wildfire through the tightly-knit community, leaving residents reeling from the sudden and unexpected loss.

Initial speculation within the community suggested that Mr. Sosa might have been en route to his farm when he tragically fell into the well. The well, primarily used for irrigation purposes, was described as being relatively shallow and lacking any form of protective barrier or clear demarcation. This apparent lack of safety precautions around the well raised concerns among residents, and added another layer of tragedy to the already heartbreaking situation. The image of the respected retired teacher accidentally meeting his end in such a manner deeply affected the community.

Upon receiving notification of the tragic discovery, the Anloga police swiftly responded to the scene. They carefully retrieved Mr. Sosa’s body from the well. Due to the advanced state of decomposition, a decision was made, in consultation with relevant authorities, to proceed with immediate burial. The rapid deterioration of the body necessitated this difficult but necessary course of action, allowing the grieving family and community to lay Mr. Sosa to rest without further delay. The Anloga police, along with the Environmental Protection Agency, were commended for their prompt and efficient handling of the situation.

The Assembly Member for the area, Mr. Laurent Doe, addressed the community and urged them to remain calm and cooperative throughout the ongoing police investigation. He emphasized the importance of assisting the authorities in gathering all pertinent information to shed light on the circumstances surrounding Mr. Sosa’s death. In a proactive step aimed at preventing similar tragedies, the community took immediate action to destroy the well, eliminating the potential hazard it posed. This decisive action underscored the community’s determination to ensure the safety and well-being of its residents.

As the investigation progresses, the police are diligently pursuing all leads to determine the exact cause of Mr. Sosa’s death. While the prevailing theory suggests an accidental fall, the authorities are committed to thoroughly examining all possibilities. The investigation will encompass a comprehensive review of the circumstances leading up to Mr. Sosa’s disappearance, as well as a detailed analysis of the scene where his body was found. The community’s cooperation in providing any relevant information they may possess will be crucial in assisting the police in piecing together the events that led to this tragic loss. The hope remains that a thorough investigation will provide closure for the grieving family and bring a sense of resolution to the community.
