The Nigerian Female Yellow Greens cricket team secured a resounding victory against Cameroon in the 2025 Kwibuka Women’s T20i tournament, held at the Gahanga Cricket Stadium 2 in Rwanda. Choosing to bat first after winning the toss, the Nigerian team showcased a dominant batting display, amassing a formidable total of 140 runs for the loss of only four wickets in their allotted 20 overs. This impressive score set a challenging target for the Cameroonian team to chase in the second innings.

Salome Sunday spearheaded the Nigerian batting attack, playing a blistering innings of 53 runs off just 36 balls, remaining unbeaten till the end. Her aggressive strokeplay and ability to find the boundaries consistently put the Cameroonian bowlers under immense pressure. Esther Sandy provided valuable support, contributing 23 runs, while Kehinde Amusa chipped in with a useful 19. The Nigerian batters capitalized on scoring opportunities, rotating the strike effectively and punishing loose deliveries, thereby laying a solid foundation for a substantial total.

In stark contrast to Nigeria’s dominant batting performance, Cameroon’s chase faltered from the outset. Their batting lineup struggled to cope with the disciplined Nigerian bowling attack and crumbled under pressure. They could only manage a paltry 36 runs for the loss of six wickets in just nine overs, highlighting their inability to counter the accuracy and variations of the Nigerian bowlers. This dismal batting display effectively sealed their fate in the match.

Kehinde Amusa, after her contribution with the bat, proved equally effective with the ball, wreaking havoc on the Cameroonian batting lineup. She claimed two wickets for a mere four runs in her two overs, displaying exceptional control and guile. Liliane Ude and Rukayat Abdulrasaq also played their part, bowling economically and picking up a wicket each. The combined efforts of the Nigerian bowlers stifled the Cameroonian batters, preventing them from building any substantial partnerships and restricting them to a meager total.

The match concluded with a comprehensive 104-run victory for Nigeria, their second win in the tournament. This emphatic win significantly boosts Nigeria’s confidence and morale as they look to continue their winning momentum and aim for a strong finish in the 2025 Kwibuka Women’s T20i tournament. The victory serves as a testament to their all-round performance, showcasing their strength in both batting and bowling departments.

Despite the impressive victory, Nigeria occupied the fifth position in the tournament standings after five matches, with four points and a net run rate of -0.160. While this win bolsters their position, they still trailed the top four teams vying for a spot in the semi-finals. The team, under the guidance of coach Leke Oyede, will be aiming to improve their net run rate in the remaining matches to enhance their chances of securing a semi-final berth and progressing further in the tournament. Their performance against Cameroon demonstrates their potential to compete with the best teams, and they will be looking to build on this success in the upcoming matches.
