During a recent visit by Dr. Muhammadu Bawumia to the Western North Region, the Paramount Chief of the Sefwi-Wiawso Traditional Area, Katakyi Kwasi Bumangama II, expressed his unequivocal support for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and predicted a significant victory for Bawumia in the upcoming 2024 elections. During the visit, which was part of a three-day tour, Katakyi Bumangama II emphasized his commitment to the NPP, reassuring Dr. Bawumia that the Sefwi-Wiawso Traditional Council would play a crucial role in securing a landslide victory on December 7. He urged divisional chiefs, queen mothers, and local NPP supporters to rally behind the party and support his biological son, Festus Bumagama Agyeapong, as the parliamentary candidate for the Sefwi-Wiawso Constituency.

The chief praised Dr. Bawumia’s efforts and the accomplishments of the NPP government, particularly highlighting the creation of the Western North Region. He indicated that this political move has spurred significant infrastructural improvements in the Sefwi area. Katakyi Bumangama II took the opportunity to request additional security services and accommodation from Dr. Bawumia’s administration to better safeguard lives and properties in the newly formed region. This reflects a deeper concern for community safety and stability, which is pivotal for continued development.

In response to the chief’s support, Dr. Bawumia expressed gratitude for the warm reception and backing from the traditional authorities and the local populace. He affirmed the NPP’s commitment to delivering on its promises, noting several accomplishments including the introduction of the Free Senior High School policy, provision of ambulances to constituencies, and the restoration of financial allowances for teacher trainees and nurses. Additionally, he highlighted significant initiatives undertaken since the party came to power, such as the creation of six new regions and infrastructural projects aimed at improving the lives of Ghanaians.

Dr. Bawumia also laid out his vision for the future, pledging a range of ambitious policies should he assume the presidency in 2024. He promised the introduction of a Credit Score System, loans specifically aimed at empowering women, and free tertiary education for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs). Furthermore, he assured voters of a dramatic reduction in utility bills by 50 percent, alongside plans to add 2000 megawatts of solar energy to the national grid. These commitments signify a robust approach to economic empowerment and sustainability as the party aims to address pressing needs.

The meeting between the paramount chief and Dr. Bawumia reflects the intertwining of traditional leadership with modern political dynamics, illustrating the chief’s role not only as a custodian of local customs but also as an influential political figure advocating for advancement within his community. This collaboration is seen as essential for mobilizing voter support, particularly as the December polls approach, and can serve as a catalyst for broader engagement in the political process among local constituents.

As the campaign heats up, with just months to go before the elections, the support expressed by the Sefwi-Wiawso chief encapsulates the importance of traditional authority structures within Ghana’s political landscape. The endorsement of Dr. Bawumia and the NPP can be pivotal in swaying public opinion, underscoring the inseparable connection between local governance, community trust, and electoral success in the nation’s democratic framework. The emphasis on development, security, and education showcased by both the chief and Bawumia resonates deeply with the aspirations of the electorate in the Western North Region and beyond, setting the stage for a competitive and potentially transformative election.
