Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State received a resounding endorsement for his re-election bid from a coalition of over 60 support groups, collectively known as ‘All Soludo Support Groups’, boasting a membership of 120,000 individuals. This demonstration of support culminated in a solidarity rally held at the International Convention Centre, Awka, where the groups presented Governor Soludo with N30 million to bolster his re-election campaign. Chinedu Nwoye, the coordinator of ‘All Soludo Support Groups’, affirmed their commitment to supporting the governor’s vision and manifesto for the state, expressing satisfaction with the administration’s achievements thus far. This endorsement underscores the widespread approval of Governor Soludo’s first term and sets the stage for a potentially uncontested re-election campaign.

Governor Soludo, in acknowledging the overwhelming support, expressed his gratitude to the people of Anambra State, emphasizing the unprecedented nature of such backing for a gubernatorial candidate. He highlighted the consensus among diverse groups, including community leaders, party stakeholders, youth, and students, urging him to seek a second term. This widespread support, according to the governor, stems from the tangible improvements experienced by the people, translating into significant political capital. The effectiveness of his administration’s policies has reportedly discouraged potential challengers from other parties, creating an environment conducive to an election by consensus, a first in Anambra State’s history.

The governor proudly noted the remarkable consensus across all sectors of society, including civil societies, traditional institutions, community governance, women, and youth. He contrasted this with previous elections, even those where his party secured all 21 local government areas, emphasizing the unique and comprehensive nature of the current support. Governor Soludo attributed the dwindling opposition to the effectiveness of his policies, suggesting that some prospective candidates in other parties have withdrawn from the race while others are merely seeking visibility for potential appointments. He extended an olive branch to these individuals, reassuring them of consideration for future roles within his administration.

Furthermore, Governor Soludo asserted the return of members who had previously defected to the Labour Party, attributing the party’s initial rise in popularity to the support of his own members. He also claimed a lack of genuine opposition within the All Progressives Congress (APC), suggesting that any contenders are merely participating for show and ultimately working in his favor. This confidence in his widespread support across party lines reinforces the narrative of a potential landslide victory in the upcoming election.

The governor highlighted his administration’s focus on human capital development through free healthcare and education, emphasizing these as Anambra’s greatest assets. He also mentioned the construction of three new cities designed to transform Anambra from a transient point to a desirable destination. The governor emphasized the meritocratic approach to recruitment, citing the example of 8,115 teachers hired from across 18 states based on qualifications, not personal connections. He championed his administration’s commitment to free healthcare and delivery services, which have reportedly attracted beneficiaries from neighboring states.

Governor Soludo reiterated his commitment to the principle of “one state, one people, one agenda,” driven by prioritizing the needs of the people rather than political connections. He pledged transparency and accountability in the use of public funds, ensuring that the impact of every investment is visible to the citizens. He described his governance approach as a partnership for progress, distinct from traditional politics, and assured continued dedication to earning the trust of the people. The governor concluded by outlining his plans for the upcoming campaign period, which includes project commissioning alongside rallies, further demonstrating his commitment to tangible development and progress.
