Nimba County Superintendent Kou Meapeh Gono has issued a clarion call to Nimba County students pursuing their education in Rwanda, urging them to forge a robust and unified front in their academic pursuits. Speaking at the inauguration of the Union of Nimba University Students in East Africa (UNSEA), Superintendent Gono emphasized the importance of the Union as a vital platform for collaboration, peer support, research, and ultimately, for their successful reintegration into Liberia’s development landscape upon completion of their studies. She envisioned UNSEA as a crucible where future engineers, economists, doctors, public health experts, environmental scientists, and the next generation of Nimba’s leaders could converge, share ideas, and collectively build a brighter future for their county.

Superintendent Gono pledged her unwavering commitment to partnering with UNSEA and encouraged other well-meaning citizens of Nimba County to extend their financial support to the Union. As a testament to her commitment, she made an initial contribution of US$3,000 towards UNSEA’s fundraising efforts, urging the leadership to reach out to her without hesitation whenever they require assistance. She underscored the significance of unity, knowledge acquisition, and selfless leadership as crucial determinants of Nimba County’s future. She invoked the legacies of prominent Nimba citizens, both past and present, who have served the county with distinction, highlighting their contributions as examples for the students to emulate. These figures included the late Johnny Voker and Gblorzoe Toweh, as well as Tuazaman, Jackson Fiah Doe, Senator Prince Y. Johnson, and many other notable sons and daughters of Nimba County.

Superintendent Gono emphasized the transformative impact of her administration since her appointment in 2024 by President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, with the support of Vice President Jeremiah Kpan Koung. She highlighted the tangible progress made in development, reconstruction, and fostering unity within the county. She underscored the palpable presence of the government in Nimba, evident in numerous projects aimed at improving infrastructure and revitalizing key landmarks. These initiatives range from the refurbishment of the Superintendent Compound and Administrative Hall in Sanniquellie to the modernization of the historic Governor’s Mansion in Butuo.

Furthermore, Superintendent Gono highlighted other significant projects undertaken by her administration, including the construction of a new City Hall in Karnplay and the restoration of the formerly neglected Tappitta Governor Mansion and City Hall. These efforts, she emphasized, are a testament to her administration’s commitment to ensuring that no part of Nimba County is left behind in the county’s overall development plan. This commitment reflects a comprehensive approach to governance, focusing on both urban and rural areas to ensure equitable progress and opportunities for all residents. She credited the collaborative efforts of the Nimba Legislative Caucus for their instrumental role in supporting these development initiatives.

Superintendent Gono’s address to the Nimba County students in Rwanda serves as a powerful call to action, emphasizing the importance of unity, education, and selfless leadership in shaping the future of their county. Her financial contribution and unwavering commitment to partnering with UNSEA demonstrate her dedication to supporting the students’ academic endeavors and their eventual return to contribute to Liberia’s development. The emphasis on visible and tangible government presence underscores a shift towards proactive governance, aimed at addressing the needs of the people and fostering a sense of inclusivity in the development process.

The revitalization projects undertaken by Superintendent Gono’s administration, in collaboration with the Nimba Legislative Caucus, signify a concerted effort to not only improve infrastructure but also to preserve the historical and cultural heritage of Nimba County. By restoring landmarks such as the Tappitta Governor Mansion and City Hall, the administration aims to reconnect with the past while building a stronger foundation for the future. This multifaceted approach to development, encompassing education, infrastructure, and historical preservation, demonstrates a comprehensive vision for Nimba County’s progress. The superintendent’s message reinforces the critical role that these students will play in shaping the future of their county upon their return from Rwanda, armed with the knowledge and skills acquired during their studies.
