Paragraph 1: Unveiling a Vehicular Theft Operation in Asaba

The Delta State Police Command has successfully dismantled a car theft operation in Asaba, the state capital, leading to the arrest of a suspect and the recovery of a stolen Mercedes-Benz GLK. The operation unfolded on August 5, 2025, when CSP Edewor Akponegware, the Divisional Police Officer of B Division, Asaba, received credible intelligence about the imminent sale of a suspected stolen Mercedes-Benz GLK at a parking lot on former Deputy Road. Acting swiftly on this tip-off, CSP Akponegware mobilized officers from the Division’s Crime Branch to intercept the transaction.

Paragraph 2: Apprehending the Suspect and Unraveling the Vehicle’s History

Upon arriving at the designated location, the police officers successfully apprehended Chinedu Eze, who claimed ownership of the vehicle while attempting to sell it to an unsuspecting buyer. Preliminary investigations revealed inconsistencies in the vehicle’s registration history. It was discovered that the vehicle had been registered twice, first in April 2023 and then again in 2025. This discrepancy prompted the police to contact the initial registrant, who revealed the shocking truth: the vehicle had been violently stolen at gunpoint in Abakpa, Enugu State, in April 2023, during which the rightful owner was shot by suspected armed robbers.

Paragraph 3: Swift Response to a Distress Call in Ogwashi-Uku

In a separate but equally successful operation, the Delta State Police Command also apprehended two suspected armed robbers in Ogwashi-Uku. On August 4, 2025, at approximately 4:30 am, a distress call alerted the Ogwashi-Ukwu Police Station about an ongoing armed robbery operation along Chelsea Street. Responding swiftly to the emergency, CSP Okoyomon Israel, the Divisional Police Officer, mobilized the Anti-Crime Squad and local vigilante groups to the scene.

Paragraph 4: Pursuing and Apprehending the Armed Robbery Suspects

Upon sighting the approaching law enforcement officers, the armed robbers attempted to flee the scene. However, the combined efforts of the police and vigilante groups resulted in the successful arrest of two suspects: Thywill Selvin, a 22-year-old male residing on Poly Road, Ogwashi-Ukwu, and Guntim Bako, a 32-year-old male from Kwale Junction. The swift response and coordinated pursuit prevented the suspects from escaping and brought them into custody.

Paragraph 5: Recovering Incriminating Evidence from the Arrested Suspects

A search conducted on the apprehended suspects yielded a significant haul of weapons and ammunition. The recovered items included one pump-action rifle with a live cartridge, one Beretta pistol loaded with six live cartridges, and three live assault rifle ammunition rounds. These confiscated items serve as crucial evidence linking the suspects to the armed robbery and further solidifying the case against them.

Paragraph 6: Reinforcing the Command’s Commitment to Public Safety

SP Bright Edafe, the command’s spokesperson, reaffirmed the Delta State Police Command’s unwavering dedication to ensuring the safety and security of lives and property within the state. These successful arrests and recoveries underscore the command’s proactive approach to combating crime and maintaining order. The police force’s commitment to swiftly responding to distress calls and diligently pursuing criminals sends a strong message of deterrence and reassurance to the community. The recovery of the stolen Mercedes-Benz GLK brings closure to the victim and highlights the effectiveness of intelligence-led policing. The apprehension of the armed robbers in Ogwashi-Uku, along with the seizure of their weapons, prevents further potential harm and contributes to a safer environment for all residents of Delta State. The Delta State Police Command remains steadfast in its mission to protect and serve the community.
