The political landscape of Taraba State was recently abuzz with rumors and speculation surrounding Governor Agbu Kefas’s alleged alignment with the African Democratic Congress (ADC). These rumors stemmed from images circulating on social media, captured at an empowerment program organized by Jafaru Chiroma, the member representing Bali/Gassol Federal Constituency. The photographs displayed Governor Kefas’s image alongside the acronym “ADC,” leading many to believe he was contemplating a shift in political allegiance. However, the Taraba State Government swiftly dismissed these claims, categorizing them as the work of mischief-makers intent on spreading misinformation.

The controversy ignited a flurry of social media discussions and raised concerns within the political circles of Taraba State. The timing of the event, coupled with the prominent display of the “ADC” acronym, fueled speculation and provided fodder for political opponents and commentators. The rapid spread of the images on social media platforms amplified the rumors, reaching a wide audience and creating a sense of uncertainty about the governor’s political future. This incident underscores the potent influence of social media in shaping public perception and the potential for misinformation to rapidly disseminate, particularly in the politically charged atmosphere surrounding elections and party affiliations.

Responding to the escalating speculation, Emmanuel Bello, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Digital Communications, issued a statement categorically denying the rumors. He emphasized Governor Kefas’s unwavering commitment to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), highlighting his past role as the state chairman of the party and his continued efforts to foster its growth and unity within Taraba State. Bello described the governor’s loyalty to the PDP as unquestionable, dismissing the social media claims as baseless and misleading attempts to sow discord and undermine the governor’s political standing.

Bello further clarified that Governor Kefas’s focus remained firmly on fulfilling his mandate to the people of Taraba State and delivering on his campaign promises. He explained that the governor’s engagement with the Federal Government, led by President Bola Tinubu, was solely aimed at ensuring good governance and securing democratic dividends for the state’s residents. He stressed that this collaboration transcended partisan politics and was driven by a commitment to effective governance and the welfare of the Taraba people, rather than any hidden political agenda or desire for party realignment.

The statement provided a crucial clarification regarding the controversial “ADC” acronym displayed at the empowerment program. Bello explained that the acronym referred to Hon. Chiroma’s popular nickname, derived from his previous role as Aide-de-Camp (ADC) to Rt Hon Aminu Waziri Tambuwal during his tenure as Speaker of the House of Representatives and later as Governor of Sokoto State. This explanation aimed to dispel the misconception that the acronym represented the African Democratic Congress and to sever the perceived link between Governor Kefas and the party.

To further solidify the governor’s affiliation with the PDP, Bello pointed out that Alhaji Abubakar Bawa, the state PDP Chairman, officially represented Governor Kefas at the event, which was prominently adorned with PDP flags and billboards. He emphasized the overwhelming and visible presence of the PDP at the event, suggesting that attempts to portray a different narrative were deliberate efforts to mislead the public and create unnecessary controversy. Bello urged the public to disregard the unfounded rumors, reiterating Governor Kefas’s steadfast commitment to the PDP and the development of Taraba State. This clarification aimed to restore public trust and reaffirm the governor’s political allegiance, emphasizing his dedication to serving the people under the PDP banner.
