A new era of accountability and transparency has begun at TDC Ghana Limited, spearheaded by its Managing Director, Mr. Courage Kafui Nunekpeku. In a decisive move to address suspected mismanagement and corruption within the company, Mr. Nunekpeku has initiated a comprehensive cleanup campaign, signaling a significant departure from past practices. His actions include launching investigations into questionable transactions, implementing stricter financial controls, prioritizing operational needs over executive luxuries, and fostering a culture of collective responsibility among staff. This comprehensive approach aims to revitalize the company and restore its standing as a key player in Ghana’s real estate sector.

Central to Mr. Nunekpeku’s strategy is the involvement of the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO). He has formally requested EOCO’s intervention in investigating a suspicious million-dollar IT contract where the software procured remains inaccessible despite the substantial expenditure. Additionally, a second request has been submitted to EOCO concerning another undisclosed matter, further demonstrating the MD’s commitment to uncovering and addressing potential wrongdoing within the company. These investigations aim to bring transparency to past dealings and hold those responsible for any financial improprieties accountable.

Complementing the EOCO investigations, Mr. Nunekpeku has announced a comprehensive audit of TDC’s land and property holdings. This audit will verify initial findings related to potential mismanagement of these assets and ensure their proper security. This move underscores the importance of safeguarding the company’s valuable resources and preventing further potential losses. By addressing both financial irregularities and asset management, the MD is taking a holistic approach to restoring TDC’s financial health and operational integrity.

Mr. Nunekpeku has adopted a zero-tolerance policy towards corruption and has extended an open invitation to staff members to voluntarily disclose any information regarding past underhand dealings. He emphasized that anyone found complicit during the ongoing investigations will face consequences, irrespective of their position or tenure within the company. This appeal for transparency aims to encourage a culture of accountability and ethical conduct within TDC. The MD’s firm stance sends a clear message that past loyalties will not shield individuals from facing the repercussions of their actions.

In a stark contrast to the extravagant spending habits of previous management, Mr. Nunekpeku has redirected the company’s focus towards operational efficiency. Instead of procuring luxury vehicles for management, he has prioritized the acquisition of essential machinery, including Urvan buses, a backhoe, a dumper, and a tipper truck, to directly support the company’s core operations. This pragmatic approach reflects the MD’s commitment to reinvesting resources into the company’s growth and development, rather than prioritizing executive perks.

Mr. Nunekpeku has emphasized the importance of unity and discipline among staff in achieving TDC’s revitalization goals. He challenged employees to embrace a shared vision of rebuilding the company into a world-class entity, drawing inspiration from the success of private developers in Ghana’s real estate market. He stressed that TDC, with its substantial assets and government backing, has the potential to surpass even these private sector achievements if everyone works together with dedication and purpose. He underscored the urgency of this transformation, highlighting the possibility of absorption by other entities like the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) and State Housing Corporation if TDC fails to demonstrate significant improvement. Finally, he emphasized the need for meticulous scrutiny and accountability in all financial transactions, using a startling example of a GHS45,000 invoice for curtain washing to illustrate the extent of past excesses and the need for a more prudent approach. By calling for staff to act as responsible citizens safeguarding TDC’s resources, Mr. Nunekpeku is promoting a sense of ownership and shared responsibility for the company’s future and its contribution to the national interest.
