The Nigerian Association of Insurance and Pension Editors (NAIPE) is gearing up for its 10th annual conference, an event poised to delve into the critical role of the insurance and pension sectors in bolstering Nigeria’s economic landscape. The conference, themed “Strengthening Pension and Insurance Framework for a Better Economy,” will bring together key stakeholders from the public and private sectors to discuss challenges and opportunities within these industries, aiming to formulate actionable strategies for their enhanced contribution to national economic growth. The choice of this theme reflects the association’s recognition of the significant potential of these sectors and their interconnectedness with overall economic prosperity.

The conference, scheduled for September 2025 in Lagos, will be chaired by Mr. Sunday Thomas, a former Commissioner for Insurance. The keynote address will be delivered by Mr. Olatunde Amolegbe, Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Arthur Stevens Asset Management Limited and a seasoned financial expert with over two decades of experience in investment banking, asset management, and securities trading. Mr. Amolegbe’s background as a past president of the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers further underscores the depth of expertise he brings to the conference. His address is expected to provide a comprehensive overview of the current state of the pension and insurance sectors and offer insightful perspectives on strategies for their further development.

Mrs. Nkechi Naeche-Esezobor, Chairperson of NAIPE, emphasized the significance of the conference theme, particularly in light of the association’s 10th anniversary. She highlighted the platform the conference provides for stakeholders to critically analyze the existing frameworks governing the insurance and pension sectors and to collaboratively address the challenges hindering their effective implementation. This collaborative approach aims to generate innovative solutions and recommendations to strengthen these vital sectors and unlock their full potential in driving economic progress. The conference is envisioned as a catalyst for constructive dialogue and meaningful change within the Nigerian financial landscape.

A distinguished roster of dignitaries and industry leaders will grace the conference as special guests. These include Mr. Olusegun Omosehin, the current Commissioner for Insurance; Mrs. Omolara Oloworaran, Director General of the National Pension Commission (PenCom); and Mr. Ike Chioke, Chairman of Rex Insurance Limited. Their presence underlines the importance of the conference and the commitment of regulatory bodies and industry players to collaborative engagement. Furthermore, Mr. Kunle Ahmed, Chairman of the Nigerian Insurers Association (NIA), and Mr. Christopher Bajowa, President of the Pension Fund Operators Association of Nigeria (PenOp), will contribute their expertise, representing the collective voice of the respective industries.

The conference’s broad reach extends beyond the core insurance and pension sectors, encompassing a diverse range of stakeholders crucial to the national economic fabric. Representatives from various financial institutions, government agencies, and trade union organizations, including the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP), and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), are expected to participate. This inclusive approach ensures a comprehensive and multifaceted discussion, incorporating perspectives from various segments of society. Furthermore, the involvement of students, advocacy groups, and civil society organizations reflects the conference’s commitment to fostering a holistic understanding of the issues at hand and building consensus towards effective solutions.

The 10th NAIPE conference aims to be more than just a forum for discussion; it seeks to be a catalyst for actionable change. By bringing together experts, regulators, and stakeholders from diverse backgrounds, the conference aims to generate concrete recommendations for strengthening the pension and insurance frameworks in Nigeria. This, in turn, is expected to contribute significantly to the nation’s economic growth by promoting financial security, encouraging investment, and driving overall development. The conference is a testament to NAIPE’s commitment to fostering a robust and inclusive financial ecosystem that benefits all segments of Nigerian society.
