The 2025 Ghana-China Business Summit, themed “Synergising opportunities: Strengthening the Ghana-China business relationship and fostering a 24-hour economy,” is poised to be a landmark event in bolstering bilateral trade and investment between the two nations. Scheduled for June 23rd to 28th, the summit will host a distinguished array of speakers, including government officials, business leaders, and industry experts, all converging to explore avenues for enhanced economic cooperation. President John Dramani Mahama’s opening address is expected to set the stage for productive dialogues and fruitful partnerships.

Mrs. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, Minister for Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry, will deliver a keynote address focused on maximizing trade potential. Her presentation will encompass key areas such as trade agreements and tariff reductions, industrial development collaborations, agribusiness value chain enhancement, and attracting Chinese investment into strategic Ghanaian sectors. The Minister’s contribution is anticipated to provide a roadmap for strengthening bilateral trade and facilitating mutually beneficial economic growth.

Dr. Toni Aubynn, CEO of the Petroleum Hub Development Corporation, will delve into the synergistic potential of Ghana’s burgeoning petroleum hub as a catalyst for Ghana-China economic cooperation. His focus will encompass petroleum refining and petrochemicals, energy infrastructure development, technology transfer initiatives, and capacity building partnerships. Dr. Aubynn will also elaborate on investment opportunities within the petroleum hub project, showcasing its potential to attract Chinese capital and expertise.

The financial dimension of the Ghana-China partnership will be addressed by Mr. Farihan Alhassan, Managing Director of GCB Bank. He will explore how leveraging banking partnerships between the two nations can finance growth and strengthen business cooperation. Topics to be covered include trade finance solutions, investment financing, innovations in payment systems and digital banking, and risk management strategies, all aimed at supporting Ghana’s ambitious “BIG PUSH” Agenda.

Organized by the Ghanaian government in collaboration with the Chinese Embassy, relevant ministries from both countries, and several private sector partners, the summit aims to be a high-impact event. Over 70 CEOs from leading Chinese state-owned enterprises (SOEs) and prominent Ghanaian investors, entrepreneurs, and business leaders are expected to participate. This gathering of key players is expected to generate significant momentum for future collaborations.

The summit is strategically designed to serve as a platform for exploring strategic investment and business opportunities. It will offer a unique avenue for China to leverage Ghana’s advantageous position as a gateway to the West African market, thereby deepening economic ties and facilitating greater regional integration. Furthermore, the summit will provide governmental officials with an opportunity to highlight Ghana’s ambitious “BIG PUSH” agenda, a comprehensive national development strategy aimed at driving economic growth and fostering a vibrant 24-hour economy. The presence of distinguished personalities such as the Chinese Ambassador, H.E. Tong-Defa; Mr. Chen Xiaowei, Group Chairman of Sino-Africa Group; and Mr. Julius Debrah, Chief of Staff, underscores the importance of this summit in deepening the Ghana-China partnership. Their participation is expected to further elevate the discussions and contribute to the formulation of concrete action plans.
