The 2024/2025 MoneyBee Competition, a collaborative effort between Junior Achievement Nigeria and Prudence Foundation, has successfully concluded, crowning three exceptional primary school students as champions of financial literacy. This nationwide initiative, aimed at equipping young learners with essential money management skills, saw Akosile Opendoors of God’s Foundation School in Ondo State emerge as the overall winner. Abdulrahman Burhan from Sacson Nursery and Primary School in Lagos State secured the second position, while Adedoyin Delight of M & N Model School, also in Ondo State, claimed the third spot. The competition showcased the impressive financial aptitude and critical thinking abilities of these young minds, underscoring the effectiveness of early financial education.

The MoneyBee Competition unfolded in two distinct stages. The initial phase, known as Cha-Ching, introduced participants to fundamental financial concepts, laying the groundwork for their financial literacy journey. This foundation was then tested and strengthened in the second phase, MoneyBee, where students applied their newly acquired knowledge and decision-making skills in a challenging online examination. This two-pronged approach ensured that participants not only grasped theoretical concepts but also developed the practical skills necessary to navigate real-world financial scenarios.

The competition attracted an impressive participation of over 25,000 pupils from 20 states across Nigeria, highlighting the growing recognition of the importance of financial literacy among educators, parents, and students alike. This widespread engagement culminated in a hybrid Grand Finale, where the top eight finalists competed fiercely for the coveted top positions. The event served as a testament to the dedication and intellectual prowess of these young participants, demonstrating their commitment to mastering the principles of financial responsibility.

Jennifer Okereke, Head of Branding & Communications-Project at Prudence Foundation, emphasized the significance of early financial education in shaping a financially responsible generation. She highlighted how the program empowers young minds with the knowledge and skills necessary to make informed financial decisions from an early age. By instilling the principles of earning, saving, spending, and donating, the MoneyBee Competition cultivates a sense of financial awareness and responsibility among young learners, preparing them for future financial success.

Oluwatosin Oyetayo, Program Officer, commended the participants for their dedication and intelligence, noting that the competition showcased the remarkable financial acumen and critical thinking abilities of Nigerian youth. The selection of eight finalists from a pool of over 25,000 participants across 20 states underscores the competitive nature of the event and the high caliber of the students involved. The competition transcended a mere test of knowledge; it became a celebration of learning, digital inclusion, and the potential of financially savvy young minds.

Ugonna Achebe, Executive Director of Junior Achievement Nigeria, reiterated the importance of financial literacy as a fundamental life skill that should be nurtured from an early age. The MoneyBee Competition plays a crucial role in ensuring that young Nigerians develop a strong foundation in financial decision-making, equipping them with the tools and confidence to navigate the complexities of personal finance. Achebe expressed gratitude to Prudence Foundation, Prudential Zenith Life Insurance, Channels TV, volunteers, school owners, teachers, and all stakeholders who contributed to the success of the initiative, emphasizing their collective effort in fostering financial literacy and preparing young Nigerians for a financially secure future. The success of the 2024/2025 MoneyBee Competition serves as an inspiring example of how collaborative partnerships can empower the next generation with the vital skills needed for financial well-being.
