A joint security operation involving the Hybrid Force from the Office of the National Security Adviser and officers from the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Egbe has resulted in the arrest of twelve suspected kidnappers and one informant across Kogi and Kwara states. The operation, which spanned locations in both states, including Isanlu-Esa and Okoloke in Kogi State’s Yagba West Local Government Area, and Patigi, Lafiagi, and Gbugbu in Kwara State, aimed to disrupt kidnapping activities and enhance security in the region. This coordinated effort highlights the commitment of both state governments and federal agencies to combatting crime and ensuring the safety of citizens. The successful operation has been lauded as a significant step towards restoring peace and stability in the affected communities.

The suspects, identified as Mainasara Abubakar, Sadik Abubakar, Jude Sani, Sanda Abubakar, Lawali Usman, Tukur Shehu, Hassan Abubakar, Kabiru Surajo, Makiri Dodo, Bala Hassan, Umaru Sanda, and Ruwa Abubakar, along with their alleged informant, Rabiu Makeri, are currently in custody. The arrests followed a fierce gun battle between the security forces and the kidnappers, during which some of the criminals managed to escape, abandoning their motorcycles and kidnap victims. Several kidnapped women were successfully rescued during the confrontation, underscoring the effectiveness of the operation in dismantling the criminal network. The security forces involved exhibited courage and professionalism in confronting the armed kidnappers, and their efforts have been commended by the Kogi State government.

The joint security operation, characterized by inter-agency collaboration and swift action, has been hailed as a resounding success. The operation not only led to the apprehension of the suspects but also disrupted a major criminal route used by kidnappers operating between Kwara and Kogi states. This disruption is expected to significantly reduce kidnapping incidents in the region and contribute to a more secure environment for residents. The Kogi State government has affirmed its commitment to prosecuting the arrested individuals to the fullest extent of the law, sending a clear message of zero tolerance for criminal activities.

The operation’s success has been attributed to the combined efforts of the security forces, the cooperation between Kogi and Kwara states, and the support provided by the Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo. Governor Ododo’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of the state’s citizens was demonstrated through his provision of logistical support and his offer to cover the medical expenses of a security agent injured during the operation. The governor’s proactive approach has been praised by local officials, including the Executive Chairman of Yagba West LGA, Tosin Olokun, who expressed gratitude for the governor’s leadership and the positive impact it has had on the security situation in the region.

The restoration of peace and security in Yagba West and the wider Kogi West senatorial district is a key outcome of the successful security operation. The disruption of the criminal route used by kidnappers is expected to have a lasting impact, deterring future criminal activities and creating a safer environment for residents. The operation serves as a testament to the government’s commitment to combating crime and protecting its citizens. The success of this operation is not only a victory against crime but also a symbol of hope for the affected communities, signaling a return to normalcy and a brighter future.

The Kogi State Government has reiterated its unwavering commitment to collaborating with federal and regional partners to maintain security and ensure the safety of all communities within the state. The government views this inter-agency collaboration as crucial for effectively tackling security challenges and fostering a peaceful environment for residents. By working together with other stakeholders, the Kogi State Government aims to consolidate the gains made through operations like this and build a more secure future for its citizens. The collaborative approach underscores the importance of joint efforts in addressing complex security issues and ensuring lasting peace and stability.
