On February 18, 2025, a gray Nissan Jeep parked at the Liberian Capitol Building, belonging to Representative Yekeh Y. Kolubah, was unlawfully entered. The vehicle, notably lacking a license plate, was parked under the canopy of the Representative’s Wing when the incident occurred. This breach of security prompted a swift investigation by the Liberia National Police’s Professional Standards Division (PSD). The investigation focused on allegations of police misconduct, specifically addressing Representative Kolubah’s claim of substantial losses. He reported missing US$25,000, LRD 2,000,000, a computer, an iPhone, and jewelry valued at US$2,500. The ensuing investigation aimed to uncover the truth behind the unlawful entry and ascertain any connection between the officers involved and the alleged theft.

The PSD’s investigation meticulously examined the events surrounding the incident, including reviewing video footage and interviewing key individuals. Their findings revealed the involvement of two LNP officers: Chief Inspector Frank P. Banda and Sergeant Sam C.F. Karbah. The investigation concluded that Chief Inspector Banda unlawfully entered the vehicle, resulting in a two-month suspension without pay. Sergeant Karbah faced a one-month suspension without pay for unlawfully opening the vehicle. These disciplinary actions underscore the LNP’s commitment to holding its officers accountable for their actions and maintaining professional integrity within the force.

While the initial investigation focused on the unlawful entry and the officers’ involvement, the LNP acknowledged the possibility of a deeper connection to the alleged theft. The PSD recommended further investigation into individuals captured in the video footage to determine their potential involvement in the disappearance of Representative Kolubah’s belongings. This broadened scope reflects the LNP’s dedication to thoroughly investigating all aspects of the incident and ensuring that all responsible parties are held accountable. Furthermore, the LNP stated that if any link is established between the suspended officers and the reported theft, they would be referred to the Crimes Services Division for a comprehensive criminal investigation.

A key figure identified in the investigation is Jack Traore, who was allegedly seen drilling the driver’s side door of the vehicle. The LNP has invited Traore for questioning to shed light on his role in the incident and potentially provide crucial information regarding the missing items. His involvement raises questions about the sequence of events and whether the unlawful entry by the officers was connected to Traore’s actions. The investigation seeks to establish a clear timeline and determine the extent of each individual’s involvement.

The Liberia National Police emphasized its unwavering commitment to transparency and accountability throughout this process. The release of their findings and the subsequent disciplinary actions against the officers demonstrate their dedication to upholding professional standards within the force. The LNP also expressed appreciation for the public’s patience and understanding as they continue to diligently investigate these serious matters. This commitment to transparency serves to build public trust and reinforces the LNP’s role in upholding the law.

The incident involving Representative Kolubah’s vehicle highlights the importance of thorough internal investigations within law enforcement agencies. By holding its officers accountable for their actions, the LNP demonstrates its commitment to maintaining public trust and ensuring that all individuals, regardless of their position, are subject to the law. The ongoing investigation into the missing items and the potential involvement of other individuals underscores the LNP’s dedication to pursuing justice and ensuring that all aspects of the incident are thoroughly examined. The outcome of this investigation will serve as a testament to the LNP’s commitment to integrity and accountability within its ranks and its dedication to serving the Liberian people.
