The Ghana Police Service successfully thwarted a meticulously planned armed robbery attempt in Accra on Monday, July 15, 2025, preventing what could have been a serious crime against a foreign national. The operation, led by the Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) Headquarters, was initiated based on credible intelligence received regarding five armed individuals lodging at a Labadi hotel and plotting to rob a foreign national residing in the Cantonments area. Acting upon the received intelligence, a dedicated surveillance team from the PID meticulously tracked the movements of the suspects who were traveling in a Toyota Yaris vehicle towards their intended target in Cantonments. This resulted in injuries to one police officer who sustained gunshot wounds to the legs and underarm. Despite being under fire, the police officers responded decisively, returning fire and injuring two of the armed suspects.
In the immediate aftermath of the exchange of gunfire, both injured suspects were transported swiftly to the Police Hospital for medical attention. However, despite efforts to save their lives, both suspects were later pronounced dead. The injured police officer is currently receiving treatment at the hospital and is reported to be in stable condition and responding positively to medical care. Following the confrontation, a comprehensive search of the suspects’ vehicle and the surrounding area was conducted. While two of the suspects were neutralized during the confrontation, three others managed to escape the scene and are currently at large.
