The United Arab Emirates (UAE) Embassy in Ghana, in conjunction with the Emirates Red Crescent, initiated its annual Ramadan charitable drive on March 20, 2025, at the Accra Regional Mosque in Abossey Okai. This year’s initiative, focused on distributing food boxes and hot meals, aims to provide crucial support to vulnerable communities across Ghana during the holy month of Ramadan, a period often marked by increased food insecurity for those already struggling. The collaborative effort builds upon a longstanding tradition of the UAE Embassy’s commitment to alleviating hardship during Ramadan and reflects a heightened awareness of the current economic challenges faced by many Ghanaians.
Food for All Africa, a non-profit organization dedicated to combating food waste, hunger, and poverty, played a pivotal role in coordinating this year’s Ramadan initiative. As a key partner of the UAE Embassy and Emirates Red Crescent, Food for All Africa leveraged its expertise in identifying and reaching the most vulnerable segments of the population, ensuring efficient and equitable distribution of resources. According to Mr. Elijah Amoo Addo, Executive Director of Food for All Africa, the organization’s core mission aligns perfectly with the spirit of Ramadan, a time for compassion and support for those in need. He emphasized the organization’s commitment to connecting partners like the UAE Embassy with those who would benefit most from their generosity, thereby maximizing the impact of charitable efforts.
Initially, the project aimed to assist 1,050 beneficiaries. However, recognizing the increased need due to prevailing economic hardships, the UAE Embassy and Emirates Red Crescent significantly expanded the scope of their intervention. Thanks to their increased support, the initiative is now projected to reach approximately 10,000 individuals throughout Ghana. This expansion underscores the commitment of both organizations to address the escalating food insecurity faced by many communities, extending a lifeline of support during a particularly challenging period. The provision of food boxes ensures that households have access to essential sustenance throughout Ramadan, while the inclusion of cash assistance through the Livelihood Improvement Program (LIP) provides a more sustainable form of support, empowering beneficiaries and fostering long-term stability.
The UAE Embassy’s commitment to humanitarian aid extends far beyond this single initiative. Their involvement in supporting less privileged communities during Ramadan has been a consistent endeavor for the past eight years, demonstrating a sustained dedication to alleviating hardship and promoting social welfare.
