The University of Ghana School of Law (UGSoL) has taken a significant step toward enhancing its stature as a leading institution for legal education in Africa by appointing heads for three newly established departments. This initiative is part of a broader strategic plan aimed at improving the framework for teaching and learning within the institution. The newly appointed heads include Prof. Peter Atudiwe Atupare for the Department of Public Law, Prof. Thomas Kojo Stephens for the Department of Private Law, and Dr. Kweku Ainuson for the Department of International Legal Studies. In addition to his academic work, he has a significant role as a senior partner at Stobe Law and serves as the chair of the University of Ghana’s Disciplinary Board for Junior Members. His multifaceted experiences equip him to lead the department effectively and innovate within the domain of private law.
Dr. Kweku Ainuson takes charge of the Department of International Legal Studies, bringing an international perspective due to his teaching experience in the United States. As a senior lecturer and coordinator of the Master’s in Natural Resources Law Programme, he plays a vital role in shaping the curriculum and ensuring that it stays relevant to modern global legal challenges. His position as Chairman of the Joint Examiners Board at the University of Ghana adds to his authority in assessment and curriculum development, making him an influential figure in advancing international legal studies at UGSoL.
Prof. Raymond Atuguba, the Dean of UGSoL, has expressed confidence in the new appointees, highlighting their extensive expertise, passion, and history of excellence in their respective fields. His remarks indicate that these appointments are not merely administrative changes, but rather a strategic move to enhance the academic environment at UGSoL and contribute to its goal of becoming a premier institution in Africa. The new heads are tasked with setting high standards in legal education and are expected to leverage their respective expertise to foster a dynamic learning environment.
