The Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana, Ho East Presbytery, bestowed a significant honour upon James Gunu, the newly appointed Volta Regional Minister, recognizing his exceptional leadership, unwavering dedication, and remarkable contributions to both the Church and the Volta Region. This Citation of Honour, presented during a thanksgiving service marking the 15th Synod of the Presbytery, encapsulates Gunu’s impactful public service and unwavering commitment to community development. The award serves not only as a testament to his past achievements but also as an encouragement and blessing for his future endeavours as he embarks on his new role as Regional Minister.

Gunu’s journey of service has been characterized by a consistent dedication to improving the lives of those around him. His tenure as District Chief Executive for Akatsi North from 2013 to 2017 laid a strong foundation for the district’s progress and growth. Furthermore, his role as Regional Secretary of his political party from 2018 to 2025 solidified his commitment to unity and development within the Volta Region. These experiences have shaped him into a leader known for his transformative impact and ability to inspire hope within the community.

The Church’s recognition extends beyond Gunu’s political accomplishments, highlighting his consistent and generous support for the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, particularly within the Ave Pastoral District. His instrumental role in establishing E.P. schools demonstrates a deep understanding of the importance of education in community development. This commitment to fostering educational opportunities underscores his holistic approach to public service, recognizing that education is a cornerstone of progress and empowerment.

The presentation of the award, which took place on Sunday, May 11, 2025, at Abutia Teti in the Ho West District, was a momentous occasion, bringing together members of the Church, government officials, and community members. Francis Dussey, the District Chief Executive for Ho West, accepted the award on behalf of the Regional Minister, conveying Gunu’s heartfelt gratitude to the Church for this prestigious recognition. In his remarks delivered through the DCE, Gunu also took the opportunity to address the Abutia community, encouraging them to cherish and protect the Kalakpa Forest Reserve, the largest in the district, emphasizing the importance of environmental preservation for the well-being of the community and future generations.

The same ceremony also witnessed the recognition of another remarkable individual, Presbyter Pearl Klutse, a dedicated member of the Amenuveve Congregation. For nine years, Madam Klutse selflessly opened her home to serve as a place of worship, prayer, and fellowship, embodying the spirit of generosity and service. Her unwavering commitment to the congregation extended beyond providing physical space; she consistently contributed financially and morally, playing a pivotal role in the growth and development of the Amenuveve Congregation from its inception in 2016. Her dedication exemplifies the spirit of community and selflessness that lies at the heart of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church.
