In a significant initiative to promote health awareness, Yango, a ride-hailing service under the umbrella of the Yango Group, has successfully conducted free health screenings focused on breast cancer, prostate screening, and general health for over 400 individuals associated with its platform. This initiative took place on November 2, 2024, at the bustling Makola Market in Accra, in collaboration with Standout Care, a non-profit health organization dedicated to primary health outreach. This health screening forms part of Yango’s broader commitment to the welfare of its partner drivers, couriers, their families, and passengers by ensuring access to healthcare and raising awareness about critical health issues.

The health screening event provided a wide array of services, including general medical evaluations, breast examinations, ultrasound scans, laboratory tests, eye and dental examinations, as well as nutritional counseling. Approximately 300 women took advantage of these vital services, with many receiving free medications to address various health conditions. Yango’s initiative follows previous health-related engagements, such as free eye screenings and a partnership with Beaver Health, which aimed to provide high-quality, subsidized healthcare for their drivers and couriers. The company’s ongoing commitment is to advance the health and safety of its stakeholders while also engaging with the broader community to enhance public health awareness.

Tom Ofonime, the Country Manager for Yango in Ghana, underscored the company’s dedication to safeguarding the health and well-being of its users. He emphasized the necessity of regular health check-ups to catch potential health issues early since early detection is critical to effective treatment. Ofonime’s statements reflect a growing awareness of the importance of preventative care within the community, particularly for women who often face higher risks of certain health conditions, including breast cancer. Their proactive approach aims not only to protect their partners and passengers but also to instill a culture of health consciousness among their community members.

During the screening, Dr. Patrick Fynn, the Founder and Team Lead of Standout Care, highlighted the importance of preventive health measures. In his remarks, he commended Yango’s consistent efforts to prioritize the health of drivers, passengers, and broader community users. This partnership is particularly significant as it represents a concerted effort to understand and address the healthcare needs of those who may not have immediate access to regular health consultations. Dr. Fynn’s encouragement for individuals, especially drivers and women, to take charge of their health aligns with the overarching goals of both Yango and Standout Care in fostering a healthier society.

The engagement was met with immense appreciation from participants, such as Mrs. Faustina Appau, a local trader and sister of a Yango partner driver. She expressed gratitude for the initiative, acknowledging that many market workers often struggle to find time to prioritize healthcare due to their busy schedules. Her comments underscore the critical need for such health initiatives in communities where access to healthcare services can be challenging. By offering such screenings at convenient locations like the Makola Market, Yango not only facilitates healthcare access but also raises awareness about severe health risks like breast cancer among women, thereby contributing to community health education.

Yango’s efforts extend beyond health screenings, as demonstrated by their diverse range of community-oriented programs, which include an educational initiative providing free data analytics courses in Python and SQL, safety awareness training for drivers, and other public health events. These programs reflect an overarching strategy where Yango aims to give back to the community and contribute positively to the lives of individuals associated with their services. By prioritizing the health and education of their partners and passengers, Yango embodies a socially responsible business model focused on fostering a supportive and healthy community while simultaneously enhancing its service offerings.
