Dr. Kwamena Minta Nyarku, the Member of Parliament for Cape Coast North Constituency, popularly known as Ragga, has responded vigorously to statements made by Central Regional Minister, Hon. Margold Assan, during a recent Town Hall meeting. The minister allegedly criticized Dr. Nyarku over his request for medical DRIP machines, and in doing so, accused him of dishonesty and failure to attend state functions. In a statement released on October 16, 2024, Dr. Nyarku labeled the minister’s comments as falsehoods aimed at damaging his reputation and undermining his character. He articulated a strong defense of his integrity and called into question the maturity and comprehensiveness of the Minister’s claims.

In his rebuttal, Dr. Nyarku specifically rejected the minister’s assertion that both he and MP for Cape Coast South have neglected to attend important events she has invited them to, characterizing this allegation as “funny” and wholly inaccurate. He stressed that, despite the gravity of the accusations, he chose to respond with restraint out of respect for women and leadership roles in politics. However, he expressed disappointment over the disrespect he and his constituents received from the minister’s unfounded allegations. He emphasized that both MPs had, in fact, honored many of the minister’s invitations, a point he suggested the Minister had either neglected or failed to acknowledge due to her “Protocol’s deliberate attempts.”

Furthermore, Dr. Nyarku demanded a retraction and apology from the Minister for her statements. He accused her of demonstrating a political immaturity characterized by a failure to discern fact from fiction and falling prey to media misrepresentation. The MP reiterated that at no point in his remarks during the campaign launch did he mention Assan’s name in relation to the DRIP machine request. He criticized her for spreading misinformation about his character, indicating that such behavior is unbecoming of someone in a leadership position.

In his statement, Dr. Nyarku made it clear that he remains resolute in his commitment to his constituents, vowing to uphold the principles of integrity, honesty, transparency, and accountability in his role as an MP. He asserted that attempts to smear his reputation through propaganda or lies would not deter him from serving the people he represents. The strong defense highlights the importance he places on maintaining a credible and honest image in the political sphere, despite adversity.

Dr. Nyarku’s public airing of grievances also reflects a broader theme of accountability and mutual respect among political figures. He urged the minister to improve her information-gathering practices before making public claims that could misinform citizens. By pointing out the necessity of better communication and understanding in political roles, the MP aims to encourage constructive dialogue rather than adversarial exchanges.

In conclusion, Dr. Nyarku’s response to Minister Assan encapsulates the turbulent dynamics of political discourse in Ghana, where public figures must navigate scrutiny and accusations while striving to maintain their honor and integrity. The episode underscores the critical need for factual communications and respectful exchanges to foster a healthier political environment. Dr. Nyarku reaffirmed his dedication to his constituents and commitment to confronting falsehoods, demonstrating an enduring focus on transparency that he believes will enhance public trust in leadership.
