Mr. Mustapha I. Anyass, the National Advocate for the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) 24-hour economy policy, has been an active and influential promoter of this initiative across various constituencies in the northern region of Ghana. Since the launch of his advocacy campaign in Tamale in July 2024, he has engaged with multiple communities by visiting homes, markets, and interacting with students, street hawkers, and road users. His objective has been to explain the multifaceted benefits of the 24-hour economy policy to constituents, aiming to create a deeper understanding and garner support. Utilizing both the backing of party members and his personal resources, Mr. Anyass has gained a presence at political rallies and has taken part in discussions meant to address and promote the policy’s key tenets.
Among the key areas of his focus have been constituencies such as Sagnarigu, Tamale South, Tamale Central, Savulugu, and Ejura Sekyedumase, where he has communicated the significant positive impact that the 24-hour economy policy could generate for Ghanaian citizens, especially the unemployed youth. He consistently urges this demographic to support former President John Dramani Mahama, urging them to recognize him as a trustworthy, experienced, and capable leader who can champion their interests and aspirations. By aligning the policy with improving living conditions, he aims to foster a sense of urgency among young voters to engage in the upcoming elections actively.
Mr. Anyass has articulated the objectives behind the 24-hour economy policy, which include boosting production, enhancing productivity, and creating more employment opportunities through the implementation of shift systems in various job sectors. He has expressed the need for transformative changes in the economic landscape to support such a policy, emphasizing that a conducive business environment, accessible financing options, and a reduction in tax burdens are critical for existing and aspiring businesses to thrive. His remarks reflect a broader call for economic reform that aligns with the NDC’s vision for sustainable development and communal upliftment.
In his role as a branch executive of the NDC for the Kalpohini Estate electoral area, Mr. Anyass dedicates much of his attention to fostering community engagement and fostering collaboration among party members and local residents. He understands that grassroots support is crucial to the success of the 24-hour economy initiative and strives to connect policy objectives with the immediate needs of the people. His interactions aim not just to inform but to energize constituents about their potential role and contributions to the economic changes being proposed.
During a health walk event on December 1, 2024, Mr. Anyass took to the media to address concerns regarding the integrity of the upcoming election. He issued a stern warning to the New Patriotic Party (NPP), cautioning them against any attempts to manipulate the election process. Mr. Anyass underscored the importance of fair and transparent elections, asserting that any actions aimed at rigging the electoral process would be met with substantial resistance. This highlights his commitment not only to the policy campaign but also to the democratic principles underlying the electoral process in Ghana.
Lastly, Mr. Anyass called for thoughtful leadership within the NDC, urging party officials to select candidates for representation at regional and national collation centers who possess credibility and a focus on the party’s overarching goals. His appeals resonate with the party’s commitment to integrity and effectiveness and reflect a broader strategy of ensuring that the NDC puts forward the best representatives who embody the party’s principles and vision. Mr. Anyass’ dedication to the 24-hour economy policy serves not only as a catalyst for economic reform but also as a foundational component of the NDC’s strategy for gaining popular support ahead of the elections.
