Governor Adeleke Orders Probe into Alleged Substandard Road Construction in Osun State

Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has initiated an investigation into the purportedly deficient construction of a 4.76-kilometer road project in the Aduramigba Community, located within the Ido-Osun area of the state. This directive follows a peaceful demonstration staged by community members on a Friday, expressing their discontent with the quality of the roadwork. The residents, wielding placards bearing slogans such as "We say no to no drainage and stonebase road," "Don’t cause quick pain for six communities," and "We kick against corruption on this project," voiced their concerns about the perceived inadequacy of the construction.

The community’s grievances, articulated by their chairman, Sunday Ogundele, centered on the absence of a proper drainage system and the overall poor quality of the road. Ogundele pointed out the rapid deterioration of the asphalt layer, which was reportedly washed away in sections by rainfall merely days after its application. This observation underscored the community’s apprehension regarding the durability and longevity of the road project.

Responding promptly to the community’s outcry, Governor Adeleke dispatched a team of senior officials from relevant ministries – Rural Development, Works, and the Osun Rural Access and Mobility Project – to conduct an on-site assessment of the road’s condition. Olawale Rasheed, the governor’s spokesperson, conveyed Adeleke’s instruction for an immediate evaluation of the completed work and the implementation of necessary remedial measures, adhering to established best practices.

The dispatched team undertook an on-the-spot assessment of the road project, engaging directly with the community members to grasp the full extent of their concerns. Beyond the immediate review and subsequent corrective actions, the team assured the residents of Governor Adeleke’s attention to other pressing needs within the community. This demonstration of commitment served to reassure the residents that their wider concerns were being acknowledged and addressed.

Concurrent with their on-site assessment, the government team initiated communication with the contractors and project managers involved in the road construction. This interaction aimed to gather comprehensive reports and determine appropriate and timely remedial steps. The team’s mandate included submitting a detailed report to Governor Adeleke by the following Monday, upon which further corrective decisions would be made. This structured approach underscores the Governor’s commitment to a thorough investigation and subsequent action.

The Governor’s prompt response to the community’s protest reflects an administration attentive to public concerns and dedicated to ensuring infrastructure projects meet quality standards. The subsequent investigation and commitment to remedial action seek to address the immediate road issue while fostering trust and transparency between the government and the communities it serves. This proactive approach aims not only to rectify the current situation but also to establish a precedent for accountability and responsiveness in future infrastructure projects, ensuring the delivery of quality and durable public works for the benefit of the Osun State populace. The ongoing dialogue with the community and the planned corrective actions demonstrate a commitment to addressing both the immediate concerns and the long-term needs of the Aduramigba Community.
