Tobi Amusan, the renowned world record holder in the women’s 100m hurdles, has recently celebrated her induction into the University of Texas El Paso (UTEP) Hall of Fame. This accolade comes seven years after her graduation and marks her as the youngest female inductee in the school’s history. The Hall of Fame Class of 2024 also included notable athletes such as Beto Bautista from men’s basketball, Izabela Piekarska from women’s basketball, Tony Tolbert from football, and Brandon Wolfram from men’s basketball. The induction ceremony took place on October 15, adding another milestone to Amusan’s already impressive career.
Reflecting on this significant achievement, the 27-year-old Amusan expressed her gratitude for the opportunity she had during her time at UTEP, emphasizing both the joy and challenges of being a student-athlete. She shared her journey from January 2016 to August 2017, highlighting how she received a full scholarship that allowed her to focus on athletics while pursuing her education. Additionally, she was a three-time All-American and a two-time runner-up at the NCAA Championships in 2016. Amusan’s achievements also include being a five-time Conference USA champion and setting school records in both the indoor 60m hurdles and outdoor 100m hurdles. Amusan’s progression as an athlete reached new heights as she continued to excel beyond her college career. She set the world record in the 100m hurdles with a time of 12.1 seconds during the semi-finals of the 2022 World Championships in Oregon.
