Tolu Bankole, a key member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Working Committee, has expressed his praise for President Bola Tinubu’s recent appointment of Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda as the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction. Bankole, who holds the position of the national leader concerning Persons with Disabilities within the party, issued a statement in Abuja, highlighting the positive implications of this appointment, which was announced just a day prior. He emphasized Yilwatda’s commitment and significant contributions toward improving the welfare of vulnerable groups in Nigerian society, marking the decision as a testament to the administration’s focus on humanitarian issues.
The NWC member articulated that the nation is optimistic about the fresh ideas and proactive measures that Yilwatda will introduce to tackle the pervasive issues of poverty and enhance the humanitarian initiatives in the country. Bankole noted, “This appointment reflects a dedication to addressing the needs of the most vulnerable in our society,” and expressed anticipation for innovative approaches that would foster progress and lead Nigeria towards greater prosperity. He highlighted the urgency for impactful changes, underlining the expectation for Yilwatda to fulfill the roles and responsibilities entrusted to him effectively.
Bankole further emphasized the importance of Dr. Yilwatda’s role, particularly for persons with disabilities, underscoring the need for a leadership that combines vision, dedication, and compassion in catering to the aspirations of all Nigerians. He called on the new minister to meet the high expectations set by the populace and to spearhead meaningful improvements that would benefit vulnerable communities across the nation. His remarks reflect a collective hope that Yilwatda will prioritize inclusivity and work towards the advancement of marginalized groups.
In addition to commending Yilwatda, Bankole took the opportunity to congratulate the other newly appointed ministers, urging them to embrace inclusive practices in their operational frameworks. He stressed the necessity of considering the needs of all citizens, particularly persons with disabilities, in policy-making processes across all government sectors. This call for inclusivity aligns with the broader objective of enhancing social welfare and ensuring equitable representation within governance.
The context surrounding these appointments indicates a significant reshuffle in President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet, as he recently dismissed five ministers. The decision was publicized through a statement from Dada Olusegun, the Special Adviser to the President on Social Media. The ministers dismissed included figures from various sectors such as Women Affairs, Tourism, Education, Housing, and Youth Development, signifying a strategic re-evaluation of the administration’s approach to governance and policy implementation.
Following the dismissal, the president appointed seven new ministers, signaling a fresh vision for the administration. Notable among these appointments were Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, named Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, and Jumoke Oduwole, who took on the Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment role. This reshuffle reflects Tinubu’s commitment to enhancing the government’s functionality and responsiveness to the needs of the populace, especially as he seeks to reinforce his administration’s objectives and tackle pressing national issues.
