Axxela Limited, a prominent gas and power solutions provider in sub-Saharan Africa, has reaffirmed its commitment to bolstering energy security, fostering industrial growth, and championing environmental sustainability within Lagos State and Nigeria as a whole. This commitment was underscored during a recent technical visit to Governor Babatunde Sanwo-Olu at the Lagos House, Marina, where Axxela executives outlined the company’s extensive contributions and future plans for the region’s energy landscape.
Axxela’s impact on Lagos State’s energy infrastructure is substantial. Through Gaslink Nigeria Limited, a subsidiary, the company has spearheaded private-sector natural gas distribution, expanding the gas infrastructure network by over 170 km. This network spans critical industrial hubs including Ikeja, Ilupeju, Isolo, Ijora, Apapa, Tin Can, Victoria Island, and Eko Atlantic, providing a cleaner and more cost-effective energy alternative to traditional fuels. This expansion has not only fueled industrial development but also contributed to a reduction in carbon emissions, aligning with global sustainability goals. Further extending its reach, Axxela is actively developing its infrastructure within the Victoria Island-Lekki corridor, a strategic move that promises to enhance energy access and support the continued growth of businesses in this vital economic zone. Axxela’s efforts have resulted in a positive feedback loop, attracting new industries to the region while simultaneously empowering existing businesses to thrive, leading to increased economic activity and higher tax revenues for public infrastructure investment.
Beyond natural gas distribution, Axxela’s expertise extends to power generation. The company has developed Independent Power Projects (IPPs) for the Lagos State Government in Akute and Alausa, demonstrating its commitment to enhancing the state’s power capacity. A recent project includes a 5.8-megawatt power plant for Cadbury Nigeria, showcasing Axxela’s ability to tailor energy solutions to meet the specific needs of large industrial clients. This diversified approach to energy provision positions Axxela as a key player in addressing the power challenges facing the region. Governor Sanwo-Olu, welcoming the Axxela management team, affirmed the state government’s commitment to creating a conducive business environment for investors. He emphasized the government’s support for companies like Axxela that actively contribute to the enhancement of energy infrastructure and sustainability. This mutual commitment between the public and private sectors underscores the importance of collaborative efforts in achieving sustainable development goals.
Kehinde Alabi, Managing Director of Axxela Gas Distribution, articulated the company’s strategic vision for Lagos State, highlighting its vital role in their operations and the significant contributions they have made towards establishing it as a regional energy hub. He emphasized the direct impact of Axxela’s initiatives on driving industrialization and promoting environmental sustainability. Looking ahead, Alabi underscored the company’s commitment to collaborating with the state government to address the existing energy gap. The ongoing development of the AGI facility in Ikeja and the expansion along the VI-Lekki corridor serve as tangible evidence of Axxela’s dedication to providing sustainable energy solutions that empower industries and reduce carbon emissions. This forward-looking approach positions the company as a leader in the transition to a cleaner energy future.
Axxela’s commitment extends beyond its core business operations to encompass social impact initiatives. The company actively participates in community development programs, partnering with LASPARK on annual tree-planting initiatives and supporting education through its Back-to-School Scholarship Initiative, which has benefitted numerous students in host communities. These initiatives underscore Axxela’s recognition of the importance of integrating its business operations with the needs of the communities it serves, fostering a positive and sustainable relationship.
Axxela holds a significant position in the West African energy market. Designated as a natural gas shipper on the West African Gas Pipeline and a member of the West African Power Pool, Axxela delivers natural gas to approximately 200 industrial and commercial customers through its comprehensive natural gas infrastructure network, spanning over 360 km. This extensive reach demonstrates the company’s significant contribution to the region’s energy landscape. Primarily operating through its subsidiaries, Axxela provides a diverse range of energy solutions, solidifying its role as a key player in driving economic growth and sustainable development across West Africa. This commitment to providing reliable and sustainable energy solutions positions Axxela as a driving force in the region’s continued economic development.
