The rerun of the parliamentary elections in Ablekuma North, intended to resolve disputes stemming from the 2024 general elections, was marred by violence and disruptions, drawing strong condemnation from former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. The Electoral Commission organized the rerun across 19 polling stations involving approximately 6,000 voters, focusing on areas where the initial results were not properly verified. However, rather than providing closure, the exercise became a scene of unrest, raising serious concerns about the integrity of the electoral process and the safety of participants.

The most alarming incident occurred at St. Peter’s Polling Station, where a group of thugs violently invaded the premises, halting voting for several hours. The attackers assaulted numerous individuals, including journalists present to cover the proceedings. This act of aggression against members of the press represents a direct threat to freedom of information and the democratic process itself, hindering the public’s ability to access accurate and timely information about the election.
