Covenant Presby School, located in Dzorwulu, Accra, recently celebrated its 18th Graduation and Awards Ceremony, a vibrant event that underscored the institution’s commitment to holistic education and its profound impact on national development. The ceremony served as a platform to acknowledge the academic achievements of graduating kindergarten and Junior High School (JHS) students, while also recognizing the invaluable contributions of dedicated staff, supportive parents, and exceptional students who embody the school’s pursuit of excellence. The theme, “Providing Holistic Education to Children: the Hope for National Development,” resonated throughout the proceedings, highlighting the school’s belief in nurturing well-rounded individuals equipped to contribute meaningfully to society.

The event was graced by the presence of Madam Yvonne Oppong-Ayisi, Acting Head of Syndications and Capital Markets at Consolidated Bank Ghana (CBG), who delivered a captivating keynote address. Drawing upon a personal anecdote about childhood curiosity and a teacher’s witty response, she emphasized the significance of questioning alongside answering. Madam Oppong-Ayisi underscored that holistic education extends beyond academics, encompassing critical thinking, empathy, and character development. She encouraged the graduating students to embrace their potential as future leaders, thinkers, and dreamers, assuring them of their inherent success and the nation’s anticipation of their contributions.

Mrs. Evelyn Amoamah Antwi, the Headmistress, further illuminated the school’s educational philosophy, emphasizing the Presbyterian values that underpin its approach to developing the “head, heart, and hands” of its students. She proudly announced a remarkable 100% pass rate in the 2024 BECE, with an impressive 88% of students achieving distinction and securing admission into prestigious senior high schools nationwide. Mrs. Antwi also highlighted the remarkable achievement of Master Frederick Lokko, a 2024 graduate who won the Literacy Challenge organized by Channel One TV and Citi FM, further exemplifying the school’s commitment to fostering academic excellence. Encouraging continued participation in such initiatives, she promoted the school’s “Read to Grow” literacy program in partnership with Girls Education Initiative Ghana (GEIG).

Madam Judith Amoateng Ennin, Director of Education for the Ayawaso West Municipal Assembly, delivered a compelling guest address, emphasizing the critical role of holistic education in shaping not only academically proficient individuals but also morally upright, emotionally resilient, and socially responsible citizens. She underscored the importance of these qualities in driving innovation, leading with integrity, and building a just, inclusive, and sustainable society. Addressing the graduates directly, Madam Ennin urged them to embrace challenges with courage and to view education as a lifelong pursuit. She also extended heartfelt gratitude to parents and teachers, recognizing their vital roles as the “foundation” and the “heart and soul” of the students’ success.

The ceremony showcased the exemplary achievements of students across various departments. In the JHS Class of 2025, Yebowro Edudzi Yaw emerged as the Overall Best Student, demonstrating exceptional proficiency by winning top subject awards in Mathematics, Science, Career Technology, and Computing. Other outstanding students were recognized for their achievements in specific subjects: Jeremy Oppong in Social Studies, Cedric Agboka in English Language, Obaa Yaa Acheampong in Ghanaian Language (Twi), Akosua Baah Asare in Religious and Moral Education, Messiah Akumia in French Language, and Yebowro Selikem in Creative Arts. Academic excellence awards were also presented across different grade levels, recognizing the top performers from Basic 1 through Basic 8, highlighting the school’s commitment to recognizing and rewarding academic achievement at every stage of a student’s educational journey.

Beyond academics, the ceremony celebrated achievements in extracurricular activities, with Mister Brani Jenkins (Basic 4) receiving the Taekwondo Award and Nsoh Ibrahim Najat (Basic 7) recognized for excellence in Cadet activities. The school also acknowledged the dedication and commitment of its staff, presenting awards to Shadrach Osei Boateng (Best Teacher, JHS), Theresa Dede Tei (Best Teacher, Primary), Abigail Ashalley (Best Teacher, Preschool), John Essel Amoah (Best Teacher, Extracurricular Activities), and Solomon Tweneboah Prempeh (Best Administrative Staff). Further commendations were given to Jacob Bright Owusu, Foster Asare, Nuetey Daniel, Samuel Opoku, and Patience Naoh for their exceptional service.

In her closing remarks, Madam Oppong-Ayisi reiterated the importance of values beyond academic achievement, emphasizing kindness, curiosity, and resilience as key ingredients for true success. Using humor to connect with the graduates, she encouraged them to dream big and pursue their aspirations, whether in medicine, education, engineering, the arts, or even politics. Her message emphasized that greatness begins with belief, reminding the students of their unlimited potential. The ceremony concluded with inspiring performances by students, leaving attendees filled with hope and optimism for the future. Covenant Presby School Dzorwulu reaffirmed its dedication to providing holistic education, nurturing not only scholars but also compassionate, resilient, and visionary citizens prepared to contribute meaningfully to the nation’s growth and development.
