The Deputy Minister for Interior, Hon. Naana Eyiah, recently inaugurated two new police stations in the Gomoa Central District of the Central Region of Ghana, marking a significant enhancement in local security measures. Notably, Gomoa Central has been upgraded to include a District Police Command at Gomoa Obuasi, transitioning from a standard police station. Additionally, a newly constructed police station at Gomoa Pomadze will extend coverage across other areas within the district. During the commissioning ceremonies held separately at both locations, Hon. Eyiah expressed appreciation to President Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for these initiatives, which are considered pivotal in fortifying security in the region.
Hon. Eyiah, who also serves as the Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, acknowledged the contributions of Inspector-General of Police, Mr. George Akufo Dampare, for providing logistical support, including a pickup truck and three motorbikes, to enhance police operations. Her remarks emphasized the partnership between local authorities and the national government, highlighting the collective effort in driving development and security initiatives within the district. She specifically thanked the local chiefs, or Nananom, for their steadfast support of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government and urged them to back Vice President Dr. Bawumia in his aspirations for the presidency, suggesting that continuity in governance would further benefit local communities.
The Deputy Minister noted the various accomplishments of the NPP government, stating that they had made significant strides in areas such as education, healthcare, and agriculture in Gomoa Central. She called upon the residents to support both her and Dr. Bawumia in the forthcoming elections to sustain the growth and improvements being realized in the district. By rallying for widespread electoral support, she aimed to ensure that the progress achieved so far continues into the future, reinforcing the relationship between governmental policies and quality of life enhancements for the people of Gomoa Central.
Speaking on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, ACP Francis Ntsur, the Deputy Central Regional Police Commander, reassured the local community of the police’s commitment to maintaining peace and stability through professional conduct. He urged officers stationed at the new facilities to adhere strictly to the regulations of the Ghana Police Service, reiterating the importance of professionalism in their duties. ACP Ntsur also commended Hon. Naana Eyiah for her efforts in securing the new police buildings, asserting that these facilities would address the long-standing challenges of inadequate police infrastructure in the region.
Furthermore, Gomoa Central District Chief Executive, Hon. Benjamin Kojo Otoo, addressed misconceptions surrounding the purpose of the new police stations. He clarified that their establishment was not aimed solely at increasing arrests, but rather at providing safety and security for residents, enabling a peaceful environment for daily activities. This proactive communication was essential in fostering community trust and cooperation with the police, demonstrating a commitment toward a constructive relationship between law enforcement and the citizens of Gomoa Central.
Nana Esoun Abonyi Kwaata II, the Chief of Gomoa Brofoyedur, also provided remarks on behalf of the Omanhene of the Gomoa Ajumako Traditional Area. He expressed optimism that the new police stations would fulfill their intended role in bolstering security and stability for the community. His comments underscored the broader anticipation among local leaders for positive change as a result of improved police presence and responsiveness, further emphasizing the collaborative effort between governmental initiatives and traditional leadership in nurturing a safe environment for the residents of Gomoa Central District.
