Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings has solidified her position as a political force in Ghana’s Korle-Klottey constituency, securing a resounding victory in the recent parliamentary elections. This marks her third consecutive term as the Member of Parliament, representing the National Democratic Congress (NDC). Her win, characterized by a significant margin of victory, underscores the deep-rooted support she enjoys within the constituency. She garnered 39,997 votes, representing 62.78% of the total valid votes cast, a clear demonstration of her popularity and the trust placed in her by the electorate. Her closest contender, Mr. Valentino Nii Noi Nortey of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), received 23,716 votes, representing 37.5%, a considerable gap highlighting the strength of Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings’ political base.

Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings’ political trajectory has been marked by consistent growth and increasing influence since her debut in the 2016 elections. Each election cycle has seen her expand her vote share, reflecting a growing connection with the constituents and an effective representation of their interests. This progressive increase in her electoral performance speaks volumes about her ability to connect with the electorate, address their concerns, and deliver on her promises. It also signifies the resonance of her message and the efficacy of her political strategies within the constituency. Her consistent victories have transformed her from a political newcomer to an established and influential figure in the Ghanaian political landscape.

The victory of Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings mirrors the overall electoral trend in the Korle-Klottey constituency, which has traditionally leaned towards the NDC. This alignment between the constituency’s political leaning and Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings’ party affiliation has undoubtedly contributed to her electoral success. However, her personal charisma, active engagement with the community, and demonstrable commitment to the constituency’s development have played a crucial role in solidifying her support base and ensuring her continued electoral dominance. Her victory, therefore, is not merely a reflection of the constituency’s political preferences but also a testament to her individual political strength and appeal.

In the parallel presidential election, the NDC also performed strongly in the Korle-Klottey constituency, with their candidate, Mr. John Mahama, securing a comfortable victory. He polled 38,451 votes, representing 63.91% of the total valid votes cast. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP’s presidential candidate and the incumbent Vice President, received 20,693 votes, which translates to 34.39%. This result mirrors the parliamentary election outcome, reinforcing the NDC’s dominance in the constituency and highlighting the strong correlation between the presidential and parliamentary votes. The significant difference in the vote shares between the two leading presidential candidates further underscores the strength and depth of NDC support within the constituency.

Other presidential candidates received significantly fewer votes, reflecting the dominance of the two main parties, the NDC and the NPP, in the Ghanaian political landscape. The Great Consolidated People’s Party (GCPP) received 38 votes (0.06%), the Ghana Union Movement (GUM) secured 57 votes (0.09%), the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) garnered 38 votes (0.01%), the National Democratic Party (NDP) received five votes (0.01%), the Convention People’s Party (CPP) secured 58 votes (0.10%), and the All People’s Congress (APC) received 26 votes (0.04%). Independent candidates, including Mr. Kofi Koranteng, Mr. George Twum Barima, Nana Kwame Bediako, and Mr. Alan Kyeremanten, also participated in the election, receiving minimal votes. These results highlight the duopolistic nature of Ghanaian politics, with the NDC and NPP commanding the vast majority of the votes and smaller parties and independent candidates struggling to gain significant traction.

Following her victory, Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings expressed her gratitude to God and the constituents of Korle-Klottey for their unwavering support. She acknowledged the trust they had placed in her and pledged to continue working diligently for the development of the area. Her victory speech emphasized her commitment to serving the constituency and her dedication to fulfilling the promises she made during the campaign period. This commitment to serving the community and her demonstrable track record of delivering on her promises are key factors contributing to her continued electoral success. Her ability to connect with the electorate on a personal level, understand their needs, and effectively represent their interests has solidified her position as a formidable political force in the Korle-Klottey constituency.
