The Ekiti State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has moved to expel former Governor Ayodele Fayose, citing his alleged actions against the party’s interests. During a press briefing held in the state capital, Ado-Ekiti, the PDP Caretaker Chairman, Dare Adeleke, explained that the recommendation for Fayose’s expulsion was driven by his purported anti-party activities, which include his public endorsement of Governor Biodun Oyebanji of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Adeleke stated that these concerns were formally submitted to the disciplinary committee led by Chief Tom Ikimi and a reconciliation committee chaired by Olagunsoye Oyinlola, in response to recent comments made by Fayose stating that the PDP was dead in Ekiti State.

In a recent event, Fayose expressed strong support for Governor Oyebanji during the inauguration of the Dehead/Faglo Road and an electrification project. His remarks highlighted his observation of Oyebanji’s developmental efforts in the state, as he publicly declared, “I am very proud of you” and committed to supporting the governor’s re-election bid. However, Adeleke interpreted these comments as a betrayal of the party, suggesting that Fayose’s actions could mislead the public regarding the true values of the PDP. Adeleke emphasized that Fayose’s alignment with Oyebanji not only undermined the PDP but also represented a significant embarrassment for the party.

Adeleke further articulated his viewpoint, stating that Fayose’s loyalty appears to lie elsewhere and that retaining him and his supporters within the PDP would be harmful. He described Fayose as having effectively severed ties with the PDP, labeling him as someone who aligns with the interests of the APC. In Adeleke’s perspective, Fayose’s overt support for Oyebanji could indicate ulterior motives, suggesting that Fayose is likely seeking financial incentives from the governor. He questioned the basis for Fayose’s endorsement, arguing that Oyebanji’s administration has failed in fundamental areas such as infrastructure, healthcare, security, and education over the past two years.

The comments made by Adeleke reflect his criticism of the current administration in Ekiti, where he pointed out the poor state of infrastructure and the seemingly deteriorating health sector. He lamented the lack of progress under Oyebanji’s leadership, describing it as a period of regression in the state’s developmental landscape. The chairman emphasized the necessity for the PDP to confront these realities and regain its footing in Ekiti politics. His stark criticism serves not only as a call to action for the party’s supporters but also as an appeal to reclaim the party’s narrative amidst dissenting voices from within.

As the situation unfolds, Adeleke urged Fayose to make a definitive choice regarding his political alignment, suggesting he formally defect to the APC rather than fostering confusion within the PDP. He underscored the importance of unity and collective efforts among party members to ensure the PDP’s resilience and strength in the face of adversity. Adeleke’s commitment to bolstering the party’s foundation in Ekiti was reiterated, appealing to all members to remain focused and avoid distractions brought on by internal strife.

In closing, Adeleke called on the people of Ekiti to remain vigilant and patient, stressing that the work ahead is crucial for the party’s revival. He directed attention towards the upcoming elections in 2026, urging the electorate to reject any political leadership that fails to prioritize the well-being and development of the state. The themes of accountability and integrity resonated throughout Adeleke’s remarks, reinforcing the PDP’s aim to renew its commitment to serving the people of Ekiti state and restoring its political influence in the region.
